Has anyone who replied to Google's email received a reply back? I replied asking for further info but haven't gotten anything back...
Yes, just about an hour ago. Not really sure how to "label" an ad, but they that's what they responded.
I think I figured out this big mystery... While creating a new channel for this 300x250 hoopla, I noticed that the channels themselves have extra options. So it's actually not necessary to create a new channel, you can take your existing channels, click "edit settings", and THERE you add the "300x250 ATF" description. So my guess is that it's not so much we were "selected" for inclusion into some secret placement program... it's just Google letting us know that we can have not just our entire site but individual ads targetted by ad purchasers.
I think I was "selected". They sent the email to the domains email address not my adsense account email. Also they didn't mention any other site in my account. Thanks for the info on how to add details to the medium rectangle.
Google is a multi-billion dollar company. Multi-Billion dollar companies don't hold your hand and treat you like your valued. Instead, they use the data they have available to figure out who to target and then send you emails acting like they did that. I find it amusing that they send the email like someone there is actually looking around at sites and picking them. Think about how much work that would be for them. Say they have 10 million sites running adsense and are looking for the top 100,000. I can't think that anyone at G would be considering looking at each of the 10 million sites and then saying, wow this is a good site, send them the 300x250 email. They are way too large ... and are so large they don't care about the fact that they are acting like they are hand picking but aren't.
Ever heard of account reps? The adsense team will hold your hand as much as you want them to. They always respond personally to every one of my emails!
Guys who got that email from google adsense team, do you have anything in common? Like being in the +$10,000 club or something?
I too received the e-mail, on my best performing site. I am not yet a member of the $10000+ club but this site does very well in ctr and revenue for me. It's a fairly simple change that just reduces my ad format size, I will give it a go and report back on any interesting trends I note. Good luck all, tasty
i never got one i got band not happey lol well all i can say one day when my site makes me rich and i buty google ill sake who evert band me lol
4 pages into this thread, and i'm trying hard not to laugh. please correct me if i'm wrong, but don't you people realize that this site-targeted custom channel stuff is for cpm ads only? it doesn't matter how many clicks you get from it. in fact, clicks on cpm ads are taking traffic away from your website, so you can't make money from those web surfers. since it is site-targeted cpm, the ecpm will be low, like it always is... the only potential this has is if the big ad block gets used for the new video cpm stuff they are currently testing.
I like to think they contacted me because I am special, but more like I was part of a special group. Holding hands, are we talking about Yahoo or Google
I didn't get an email like that but for the first time I did receive an email from Adwords stating I should increase my daily cost to $10 dollars.
Its pretty clear what it is. I think we have all just been manipulated by Google. They obviously have a big corporate advertiser who wants to spend a few million on video or image ads (probably video) and is demanding alot more quality above the fold positions for the 300x250 rectangle. So Google figures the best way to get us to do exactly what they want is send us a little email that appears to individually select sites to make webmasters feel 'special'. Their evil plan worked, I feel dirty
How is that manipulated? They specifically said they have advertisers that want to pay more money for the medium rectangle above the fold! And if you followed their directions they might advertise on your site also, putting some of that "few million" in you pocket also. Sounds pretty straight forward to me
It was not the whole truth and nothing but the truth. But you are right, its mutually beneficial. The fact is Google is getting a reputation for not being open and honest about what it tells webmasters.
It was the whole truth. If you need their exact words from the email: I don't think they could have been any more clear. Hardly a "fact". Lol. I am more inclined to believe the google adsense team is more honest than the people saying the google adsense team is not honest, I don't know about the rest of the google people. The folks at adsense are always nice and open with me. Try emailing them if you have concerns, I'm sure they will answer them.
