Proportion of reciprocal to one-way links ?

    Hi folks,

What is the normal ratio of reciprocal links and one-way links to a site?

For example, If I have 50 one-way links will 100 reciprocal links cause any kind of problems ? [ Perhaps triggering some filters for artificial link building etc... ]

Being on topic, is there _big_ difference in weight given by google for both type of links ?

    TIA. :)

    There's no "normal" ratio.

I'm of the opinion that one way links are "worth" more than recips.

I'd say the recip links should be less than 10% if any at all. If we look at all authority sites (google, msn, cnn etc), they have no recip links at all.

Really? I would guess that sites like CNN which links to other sites quite frequently in articles and such has some recip links.

Is that a guess or are you using some kind of tool that provides that info?

I also assume it's under 5% - just curious on how you arrived at that number.

I have a script to do the job. links in articles aren't the same as the recip links on resource or link pages

There are few chances that a reciprocal link can be natural, unless you link to a media. Thus, there should be way more non-recip links.

I totally agree with dejaone on the importance of 1 way links. Although, considering the enormous amount of websites and pages that spiders have to go through, I'm wondering if they can really match all reciprocal links and say: "Hey! This one doesn't count cause the other guy is linking back to it." I mean...googlebot takes a few days just to crawl my site alone. How could it identify reciprocal links from millions of websites? If the technology was so far advanced, I think they could manage to find out much more stuff such as copycats but they don't unless someone complains about it. ;)

Nope. I uploaded the same pages on 2 servers after only changing titles and areas on the page where the company name was mentionned and Google still seem to think that they are 2 different companies. lol

What does that have to do with a se's ability to determine a recip link?

Dude cnn has 1.5 million pages and like 9 million links, you are saying you have a script that downloaded the million pages from cnn and then downloaded the 9 million sites that link to cnn and then parsed it all to see which sites link back

sounds like bullshit to me, care to post some of that code?
