Proportion of good links to bad links?

Does it matter what the proportion of good quality links (on high PR pages) to bad quality links (on PR0 pages) is, when it comes to google rankings? I am asking because for some time I didn't market my site and it was on a good position, when I started marketing by posting many links (on PR0 pages mostly) my rankings went down and the site jumped several pages back in google.

Right now I am not sure whether to continue posting in forums and open directories, or only try posting on pages with PR > 0.

    Any advice?

I dont think it is due to your marketing work but yeh there is possibility if you have overwhelm it.
If can continue it with relevancy and keep watch on your competitor it might happened due to your competitor.

There are a lot of reasons that your site could have fallen but making links isn't the one. Tell more about your site to figured out what it was.

You are wasting you time in low hanging fruits. Start looking for quality links, directory submissions and forum posting are useless, atleast for link value alone

I believe that getting links from thematically relevant websites even if it is PR0 would more sense than having links from non thematic high PR pages. So if you have sourced thematic links then I don't see it as a cause for the ranking nose diving. There has to be something else that triggered.

Have you changed anything apart from this??

Well I basically spent about 1 month to submit a lot of links to all the open directories, in total probably around 100-200. I also submitted a lot on forums, totaling over 300 posts i think. Also I did some blog commenting. Btw all the links had the same anchor text.

As you can see those were 99.9% poor quality links.

Before that work I was on the 3rd page of google. After a month of that work I fell to the 8th page. I assumed that it was because I had too many bad links and very few good links. You think it can be so?

Btw, after about another month and a half I am on the 1st page now!! Woohoo!! But why such sudden jumps 3->8->1. Any explanation?

Your focus should be on related, quality links nothing else. Why waste your time with bad links? It may or may not be the reason your site has been dropped, but in our experience this is a pretty good candidate.
