Properly creating META tags???

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by miksy123, Oct 19, 2010.

    Hello,

People tell me everything about this but...what's the best way to create meta tags? what should they look like? should I use only the title tag or I should use keyword and description tag? For example, I want to optimize my website for the following keywords: "car tuning", "tuning wallpapers" and "tuned car pictures"! What do you think, how the META tags should look like? What's your opinion?

    Thanks!

<meta name="description" content="catchy description here to draw in visitors" />
    <meta name="keywords" content="keyword1, keyword2, keyword3, keyword4" />

You should use all the title, keyword and description tags for they appear on SERP.
Include your keywords on the title and description. Make also your tags geo-targeted or include the location where you are doing the business.

Include your targeted keyword in title tag for sure, this helps in ranking.

Try not to include same set of keywords used in meta title for meta description.

    Meta keywords - Ignore this

Title is the most important thing in On-page optimization. So your prominent keyword should be in the title tag.

You should also use description and keywords meta tags. Either keyword tag is the least important out of these but when a search engine looks for a relevant website when anyone fire some keyword then these keywords will help to rank your website in good position. You can use 8-10 keywords in meta tags. description should bot more than 255 characters and title should be limited to 65 characters.

yes the title tag is very important. properly using h1-h3 tags are equally important.

Google claims not to give any weight to the meta keywords and meta description, however, that does not mean that I believe them. Plus, if you do not provide a meta description then google will make its SERP description on their own. While there is no guarantee that they will follow your meta description, I still prefer to have some say in the matter.

Plus googlebot is not the only spider and google is not the only search engine. Even if google is telling the truth about their use of the meta tags, it does not mean that other SEs are doing the same.

So my advise is to always include them.

Google doesn't cares about the keyword meta tag (matt cuts said this). They care about quality content and backlinks

So what if Google doesnt care...It can't hurt if you rank higher on Yahoo/Bing/Small ones if you do it.

Plus, as Allen Andersen said, maybe Google does care a bit about them.
