    Hey everyone,
Lots of people suggest blog commenting as a good way for backlinks, but not many people mention that webmasters don't see right through peoples attempts to create backlinks/traffic for themself, and will see your comment as spam.

I'm sure you've all seen it, or maybe you're even guilty of it: In the comments section, something like this:

    Free Home Owning
    22nd March 2008
    Really good post, thanks!

    Celebrity Makeup
    23rd March 2008
    Wow that was really informative.

You'll find in both comments however, the link in the anchor text has been removed. The webmaster knows that with such a short, generalised comment like that you don't give a stuff about what he's written, you're just trying to create a link.

If you leave a detailed, in-depth and related comment your comment has a much higher chance of being approved. On my websites at least, It's easy to spot a backlink creating attempt even on a quality post, But I leave the link there for their effort at least (aswell as extra related content on that page).

So if you're new to link development or haven't realised yet: Webmasters are people and they see right through backlink attempts!

Good call. There's definitely a trend...if the comment is a compliment, with no feedback on the actual post, 9 out of 10 times it's spam.

Well, there's no point of ever using your name unless you wanna rank for the search term 'Matt' for your urban clothing site. If another comment with anchor text hasn't been approved, might as well move onto the next blog.

if the site you're advertising is a blog, and you write a detailed, informative post, and maybe even answer some other commenter's question, and it's on a blog with the same niche as you, then people will see you as a good writer, informative writer, and someone they'd probably want to continue to read, so they WANT to head to your site.

On my new blog, people think it's okay to list their links to their pages IN the comment.... very annoying.

It can be hard putting keywords for the name section. 1 way i found to work pretty good is to add it with your name, like "Mike the Car Guy" or "Daves Urban Clothing"

That's a good idea amedia, but would that give any value to the search term "Urban Clothing"?
I'd think only the search term "Daves Urban Clothing" would benefit. Not too sure about that one.

Actually...on second thought, I just remembered the benefits of having varied anchor text. And I'm sure the system wouldn't ignore the fact that 'Urban Clothing' is still in the anchor text. Yeah, It would be beneficial I guess.
