Just looking for different avenues and promotion ideas for annual paid directory submissions give me some feedback on this one if you would. Giving a refund to every 10 submissions (so keeping 1 out of every 11 submissions) but only allowing 1 free submission from 1 person every 10 submissions? Give me some feedback. Yeah I know it's weird but still.
I think to answer in general terms as opposed to being point specific, marketing strategies have to be used and applied many times a year, and for example 10 for 1 as in your point, is only one of many ways that a directory needs to be promoted. But overall what is needed above all else is 365/24/7 Directory support services covering marketing, technical, functionality, submittal and approval processes, and not least an interaction with your clients because if you are not supporting your own product how can you expect your clients to continue to support you I am sure you are doing a great job with your directory but hope these points help you a little with with your Promotion Ideas
Yes I agree. And the question is specified for 1 marketing avenue (that being the opening and launching of) I'm not planning to launch my directory for a while just getting everything together first.
OK I understand more clearly now your targeted objectives being the launch of your new paid directory............that brings together new dynamics that need covering 1. Try and offer something unique and different on your directory 2. Make sure your directory is built on a quality designed template 3. Be very aware that there is a lot of competition out there on the web 4. Make sure you establish solid back links to your site to ensure that will get a good PR ranking in the fullness of time it will not happen overnight 5. Interact with not only your clients but with your competitors too, you will find there is a lot of help to hand if you work hard and are transparent and practice solid business ethics............you can compete .........and still earn respect from competitors Hope these few points help
Realize you won't make money overnight. These days people start directories for a quick buck and it's really not worth the trouble if you view it like that.
It's always difficult to try to predict how something new will work. My 2 cents: Your idea is on the right track but can be improved. Instead of giving a refund to 1 in 10 submitters, why not give a prize to 1 in 10 submitters? Or maybe a prize that's 10x as large to 1 in 100 submitters? I think that would be more exciting...
Thanks guys for the feedback. And yeah I do know about the over night 2 bucks. That's how I went at my first directory. But this one is gonna be much different and I've already put in alot of time. What kinda prize could I give out though. I seen someone giving out a Flat screen TV. I would like the idea of giving out laptops being I have a solid connection on them but I don't want to come off looking like a scam.
The prize would have more allure for the guys who work as submitters. Saving a couple of bucks isn't that big a deal. however I personally would rather just have a clean deal with a great directory than gimmicks. Get those internal pages ranking high and you'll be fine. Takes more time but it's way more effective.
No so much a scam just gimicky you know? I have a few ideas being I've been reading here but want something a little original and something that would get some buzz.
i would say, offer unique content. If possible hire a designer or buy designs / sponsor templates. Get backlinks from high traffic sites. Get backlinks from strong PR sites. Advertise as much as possible.
I would add that best prize will be money. Not everybody need a TV or computer. Maybe somebody needs something else and money can make any wish come trough-not very true-but you can't be God or Love doctor
