Promoting Single Word keyword in Google

What is the best way to do this?

Usually I ignore this completely as it is usually quite difficult but one site I have(http://www.poultrypages.com/) is doing fairly well for the keyword "Poultry", it currently ranks 30 in google.com which sends me about 3-5 visitors a day. So if I could get this listed on page one then this number could be huge!!!!

So how do I best promote this keyword. Should I strip out the title and h1 tags of everything but the word "Poultry"? Should I list poulty as one keyword then follow it by a comma? e.g. change from "Poultry Eggs, Equipment and Supplies" to "Poultry, Eggs, Equipment and Supplies"?

    Any other tips and suggestions?

I'm with rena, if the on-page optimisation is fairly good don't mess with it. Build lots of backlinks with the word 'poultry' as the anchor (clickable) text, preferrably from established sites with similar subject matter.

Optimisation can get you reasonable SERPs positioning, but it's the backlinking that will push you up the ranks.

I agree with the above comments. Onpage seo likely won't increase your ranking much at all. You'll see much better results by working at getting more quality back links. I wouldn't just use 'poultry' as the link anchor text for all new links though. Keep varying your link anchor text using various phrases that include the word 'poultry'. In time you can dominate almost every poultry related keyword, including 'poultry' itself.

There is some on page SEO that you can do. Get "Poultry" into the title and descriptions of a lot of pages on your site. This will focus your theme to poultry in Google's eyes. You'll see a boost just from the on page SEO. Then go out and get links back to your home page and to some internal pages with "Poultry" as one of the words in the anchor text. You can make it the only word for some of the back links, but the others should have other words mixed in.

Why don't you rely on your competitors density, proximity and back links.

Build backlinks, set yourself a target everyday and hit and exceed that target. Down the track you will have acquired enough backlinks to get onto page 1.

Ithink one word won't get you to page 1. you will need normal seo practice to reach you there

I'm not sure why you'd want to rank for "poultry" - its not a buying keyword: why not somelike: where to buy the best laying hens. or "how to best cook poultry for Xmas" ?

    Thanks for your advice.

This is simply based on search numbers. Poultry is searched about 1/3 million times a month and since I am close to page one I figured I could get some great traffic by pushing it a little harder.

The site is jsut an information site - I do not sell anything. Earning are from adsense so I think Poultry as a keywrod would perform reasonably well.
