Promoting news site, going for traffic more then PR.

I built a blog-news site that allows users to submit articles that they wrote on breaking news, or older news and it automatically figures out rankings and site content based on the url and content of the site. I have made rating sites before which were easy to market and get tons of traffic, but this one doesn't really fit in because it isn't really interactive.

    site: http://vi.goro.us

How would you guys promote it? It does have a core base of users from before when it wasn't as automated.

Since it's a blog, I find it easier to market ;) Have you pinged all of your site?

If you want to work on PR... work on your backlinks (make friends with other bloggers, get your blog on their blogroll, etc). Note that most comments left w/ urls have nofollows, if you were thinking about building links that way

Stumbleupon is a good thing to try.

It is ;) I sometimes stumble each blogpost. They so give you traffic but it's pretty low quality. Digg gives better targeted visitors
