I thought it would be good to share ideas on how to promote an arcade site.

There are the obvious ideas such as:
    - Link exchanges
    - Game site banner exchanges

What else have you found to be effective?

Some ideas I have tried is keeping the content updated daily, this seems to help a lot. Also I have tried a newsletter featuring the newest games, although I do not know how successfull this has been.

Definitely keep updating your content daily. I own an arcade site - I've had for about a year and have since forgotten about it... it just sits there and still manages to pull in over a hundred uniques a day purely from SEs, and I haven't updated it in over a year. I'd imagine the traffic would be 10x that, had I bothered to update it daily.

It may be one of the most easiest polluted niches to break into - while you won't get the mammoth amount of traffic that miniclip gets, you will get a share of it. There will always be a market for new arcade sites.

Try advertising on gaming forums, or joining them and adding your link in your sig.

You can give testimonials or message on social networking sites such as myspace, friendster etc with your games and links embedded on the message

Have you tried contacting the administrators of game forums to see if you can place Banner ads or Tex Links on there site.

I have done that with Vertical jump programs and it worked out pretty well. I placed the Tex link or the Banner on forums related to basketball.

Or you can join a high traffic game forums and put the site in your signature

exchange with higher ranking sites for the keywords you want to target, join a traffic forum, and exchange comments with other arcade sites.

What is the average pull from adsense or YPN on arcades lately? I've got one that has made about 5-10 a month, and recently purchased another for relatively cheap. Is there much money to be made from arcades, i ask because they seem quite difficult to get traffic to.

I used to make a very good ammount with YPN, easily 4 digits per month. Then YPN decided to remove me for no reason. I am still making a decent ammount with Google, but not as much as before. Mid to High $XXX per month or so.

As earlier said, keep updating, build backlinks, create ads on other sites AND Create a facebook fan and group page for your site! That helps a lot! ANd you can notify people of when there is new updates/competitions.

The market is full now with arcade sites ..... i have one 2 www.Flashjunkies.com and im strugling to get it out there .... but for an arcade site it will great if you get a lot of organic traffic. This niche is verrrryyy hard ... you need to put a lot of time and work into it there are 100's of arcades sites that are created a day but most of them fail and give up fast.

Im trying to promote mine with myspace, facebook ( get a few visitors from there ) submiting to directories and trying to get high on google
