Promoting a site with no content

I currently own a domain with a site that is in development.

Is it wise to start building backlinks and submitting articles now?
Or should I wait for the site to be 100% before developing off-page SEO.

Any feedback on this would be appreciated.

If the page is empty or close to empty, you will not rank very well even with backlinks because google will see your site as worthless due to lack of original content.

If you get a couple pages done it would be ok to start trying to get some backlinks but keep in mind if googles daily index shows 0-1 page of content it's going to start you off with a bad rating.

Wait until you're done building the website (or at least get it to a point where users can get something out of it). If you start building links and writing articles now, people are going to click those links and see the lack of a website. Then they're not going to go back. They might see that link in the future, but if their memory is good, they're going to remember that website had nothing on it. And it's easier to remember a website that had nothing on it than a website full of content because the website with nothing stands out.

If you want to promote your web site through link building then what you tells to search engines through links that what it contains in it.
IMO you should wait before it's completion then you may start off page for it.

I also recommend building at least some content before starting to promote the site - you don't need the full site, just a few pages... that is not only helpful in front of the SEs, but also in front of the visitors, as very well pointed out by Philoon...

I think it would be hard to promote a site with no content since it would not indexed faster unlike with good and quality wherein its easier for you to get indexed ..So better wait for 100% of your site before developing SEO

Content is king in seo.Without content on the website its not good to do article submission. You can do one thing start directory submission it will help you to create hard links until your site is not complete.Once your site is completed start all organic seo activity to creat backlinks.

you have to have content on the site as basic rule to rank in google is unique content and without that i dont think only backlinks can help you out. So as your site is still in development phase, create some 3-4 pages describing your site and service with contact page and then start building backlinks till you get your site developed.

i highly suggest that you should promote a site with content rather than promote a site without a content because search engines rank your website base on the quality of content that you have.

As a SEO expert i only recommend to start the off page work after the completion of complete development and on page SEO work.

Google says that content is king of SEO, but its NOT!
Links are king of SEO. If you dont have big SEO competition, and if you proceed nice link builiding on relevant site, you can rank very well.
It is posible to rank very well without content, but truth is that is also harder.

P.S. I am experimenting at this moment how can i rank without content. You can check my first link in signature, and search for it in the results here:
    http://www.google.com/search?q=auto...s=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a

I only placed few link, nothing special for now.

You shouldn't start to promote something without content. Of course you can, but it's very hard...

It's better to start now, because age of links is very important factor. When you release your site your links will be older than it could be if you wouldn't start link building now.

    Google is pretty shrewd.

Backlinks to no content website makes very little sense.

I suspect Google is very aware of that.

You don't need to wait until your site is "complete" I haver never had a complete site. ) Get something there though if the purpose is for SEO.

If it is for traffic and you already have your product there, by all means, backlink it. If For SEO, have it make sense first.

There is no use of promoting/building backlinks for a blank website, it will give bad impression to both visitors and google bot. I will recommended you to create a one page site (a unique article on homepage) and then start building links but at a slow rate. Google may give instant high rank to your domain but for long time.

Thank you for all of the replies. The site is host-review(dot)com

Ok, I went ahead and put a landing page up. Would this work?
I really need to start link building because I'm competing for extremely hard keywords.

I can't find content on landing page of host-review(dot)com
As soon as you finished writing an original article, you can start building links with your keywords as anchor tags :)
