Hey Everyone, I have started a few forums that were somewhat successful. Now, Im starting a new webmaster forum and was wondering if anyone had any tips on promoting a forum. So far, Ive bought some text links, PPC and paid posting, does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks!
Submit your forum to dozens of directories and search engines, do link exchanges with people (because then they are fre ) and hold a contest. I would suggest a referals contest, this would motivate existing members to invite thier friends and get you more members
One of the best tips I saw was for you to add a link in your sig for all of the forums that you post in, then you'll be targeting directly to people that read and post in forums.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, I bought 250 directory submissions, I have also bought alot of links. I am also going to purchase alot of bannerspace on webmaster sites. As far as contests, I think I might have a contest as well. What do you guys think about this: a contest for best post and a contest for most posts? Things I plan to implement on my forum: a) a chat b) points system c) rep. system What other mods do you guys think I should install? Thanks everyone!
Not if it's done in a sig and the actual posting is worthwhile. I wouldn't advicate spamming a forum with meaningless links. You'll probably notice lots of DP members have forums in their sigs which I don't think anyone has a problem with if the posts are good.
