I have noticed that there are a lot of different forums especially webmaster forums coming out in the web. I am getting confused which is the best but I believe Digital Point is one of the best. I was wondering, how can the new forums promote their site and get a higher rank is web search results? I feel that discussion boards are now on the trend... What do you think?

Actually, I think discussion boards are somewhat of a dying breed. Many people are using Twitter and Facebook to ask their questions now whereas we used to ONLY have newsgroups/forums. I mean, I'm not saying DP is going to be obsolete anytime soon because it is kind of a pioneer in the internet marketing industry. However, newer forums may have a harder time getting established. There are still plenty of people (obviously) visiting places like this though so there is still a market for it. Basic on-site SEO will go a long ways in getting good organic search traffic.

It all comes down to who is marketing it better, and what kind of people hang out there. If there's tons of good information on your forum, and you market it, then words will spread and take care of the business.

I agree. All the popular forums have been established. It's very hard to get a forum popular and going now

see, making a forum popular is really almoist an years hardwork. a single person owning a forum and getting success is really difficult, it requires time, Patitnce, and a lot of money to keep it rolling, but still you can not make it as successful as DP

Popular forums take a lot of looking after. 24/7 trying to keep out the rubbish. So many bots, out there today that want to do nothing more then to ruin your hard work, in getting a forum popular to start with.

Also it is difficult to get members and keep them motivated to contribute.

To get a forum on feet you are looking at about 2 years of hard work at least to get on its feet. It would all about constant work on content, getting members by promoting.

I would also say, its very tough to get it done right, unless you have solid knowledge on content, marketing etc. But its sure is fun:)

    1) forum has to be unique.

    2) forum has good content.

    3) forum has traffic. Questions actually gets answered the same day.

then this forum is a success

Forums are difficult to start ... but it really comes down to consistent traffic ... I guess which results from using the same methods you would use for any other page. If you can get 400 to 800 people a day going to ANY website, there WILL be action.
