Promoting a Classifieds Site

    Hi All

    I have spent the last few weeks looking through the forums and found lots of information. I am looking for advice on how to promote a classifieds website. I am aiming at regular users just selling odd bits in Ireland and also businesses who want to promote their services. Its only going to be 1 euro to post. I was thinking of running a few competitions to get items posted on the site and once people think its running they will want to post on it for the sake of 1euro. There is a similar site in Ireland called donedeal.ie and i would like to capatilise on some of their market as thy have no real competition.

    Any help would be appreciated

    First things first, I would make the site free until you have a decent amount of traffic and ads. Not many people would pay to advertise on a site that has little to no traffic (which is apparent since there is only one ad on your site and it's an affiliate link).

    without some good SEO - you may have a difficult time of it. I'd recommend working on that first.

    You know I have a weird thought though probably stupid why not go to the large free classified ad sites and placing a classified ad. That way you will be placing your ad in front of your targeted audience. Also check and see if there are any social bookmarking websites directed to Ireland.

    Hi guys I will look into all of the above. I have just put one ad on the site to do a test. I plan on pushing it using SEO over the next few weeks.

    I obviously need to fill up lots of categories and get traffic. Should i just find ads on other sites. I was planning to start with scouring the boards and print media for bargains and posting them up on the site. My idea is to get businesses promoting a sale they have etc?
