"Promote" feature in SERPS

Is the "promote" feature in SERPS new or did I just never notice it before?

I noticed it when I was checking to see which of my pages are indexed (site:mysite.com) and I tried clicking on it for a couple of my pages. The pages I clicked went to the top of the list which I figured maybe meant that I was telling google which of my pages were more important. Then I did a search for one of my keywords and my site was #1 (usually it's about #12) It occurred to me then that I was most likely "promoting" my site only in my own searches (when I'm logged into my google account.) Does that sound right?

I then demoted my page because I want to see accurate SERPS for my keywords. When I look at site:mysite.com now my demoted page is further down the list than it used to be. It's an important page so I hope I haven't actually done anything to it. Anyone know how this all works? thanks!

I think that you are talking about the new google search wiki, dont worry they say that it currently doesnt make any difference to anyone elses results, "just your own". in the future it is expected that it will effect serp rankings. You can your results back at the bottom of the page by clicking the "removed results" then it puts the back into there original.
    hope this helps
