Hi all, Further to a question I posted yesterday (thanks again to those of you that responded). I had asked about different programmes for checking the number of links back to our site and got plenty of suggestions which I have worked with. I got a list of 1,000 links from the following sites: http://www.smartpagerank.com/ (Good because it lists the PR and No Follow) http://backlinkwatch.com/index.php I have been looking at Yahoo Site Explorer which was also recommended and this is where my question comes into it. Why, when I do a search through Yahoo (or Google for that matter) does it list the links within our site? It listed all the different pages containing our http:// address as well as all other inbound links. I would like to get the inbound links only! I had a look at site explorer but don't see how I can recommend that it doesn't count our own website addresses. Is this even possible? Again thanks all in adcance of your responses. Angela.
In Yahoo Site Explorer simply 'explore' the site you want, Click on InLinks (these are inbound links coming to your site) and then on the 'Show Inlinks' drop down select 'Except from this domain.' By doing this it will remove all sitelinks from the results. Basically a sitelink is any internal link you have on your site that points to another page on your site itself. Hope this helps.
Just to let you know, backlinkwatch uses yahoo site explorer APIs to get the backlink information. They go deeper in the links and hence are more useful.
I use Yahoo Site Explorer but advanced programs can be more productive. For example they can display no-follow links...
Hi there, Thanks for this. I knew it had to be something straight forward but do you think I could see that? I have run it now and it is giving me a pretty similar number of links to Smartpagerank as well as backlinkwatch. fwisp: Alexa has not proven to be useful because it is not giving me full information and it also does not seem to be updating with the new links I am adding some of which I know for sure have PR with Google. Thanks everyone with your help answering this question. Angie.
