Hello everyone. I have an online website that is lately experiencing a very high bounce rate. People add a product and go to check out but a very high percentage of them are bouncing and abandoning their carts.
I really need to figure out what the problem is. Is there any software out there that can survey people with a pop up about why they left the site?

ps the site is.. r.i.z.e.m.o.b.i.l.e .COM (without the dots ...) maybe you can check it out and tell me why you think people may be leaving the checkout process?

thank you for all your help.

At what stage do people leave? I couldn't see a way of working out p&p charges without putting an item in the cart (though from my own experience I'd say people do tend to use the cart for that kind of info anyway)

try to give more info about the products including the total price, do nto let them click to buy it, and they see if they will still go to basket, if not then that is a windows shopping.

Whats the big issue with people leaving shopping carts? Does it hurt the webmaster (other then them not buying anything)? Is there like a large pile of shopping carts lying around on the ground and people are having trouble getting around them?

The issue is if you can understand why people are abandoning their carts you can take action to increase your conversion rate.

It is difficult to capture the users in any reliable way to actually ask them why they are abandoning their carts as you obviously only really know its abandoned after it is too late. For a previous client we created an extra bit of programming that created a cookie when the first item was added to the cart and deleted the cookie on purchasing. When someone returned to the site we can then check to see if they have the cookie representing an abandoned cart and thus ask if they would mind asking a short questionnaire but this is reliant on people returning to the site (mid - low probability) and not deleting their cookies (for the majority of users this is very high probability)
