Just wanted to know what everyones opinion on the subject of profiting from dealth and distruction is. I made a lot of money from the BP disaster, I brought back at around $32/3 a share. I'm up around 50% on that position right now. Just wanted to know what peoples opinion was, I think we all know it's a big bad world out there. What are your throughts?
Well that's not wrong . Even in case of a real disaster it might not be wrong , simply because if you don't take the money someone else will . If you're having a guilty conscience go donate some money to charity .
Depends really. If you're doing it with good intentions and not just for the sake of earning money then it's quite alright.
I come from a family that's in the defence industry, constructing fighter jets that are designed to kill and distory I guess is the same thing. I did it because I knew there was profit in it not because people died of got hurt. I guess there the same morals in betting a company will lose value, I took a short position on Goldman Sachs when they had their big fraud case. I made some nice profits from that too. I guess I don't feel as bad, because the people who work on oil rigs understand the risks and are well aware of the dangers. They get paid well because of it some of them are on six figures a year and only work 6 months of the year.
I agree I just look for opportunity. The worlds pretty much zero sum, for everything you consume there's a nother 5 people dying because they have nothing.
