Profiles in Cowardice: How the Tea Party Radical Congress Works(fails the country)

Discussion in 'Politics & Religion' started by earlpearl, Sep 12, 2013.

Long ago a book was written and became popular called Profiles in Courage. It was written by John Kennedy while he was a Senator. While there are controversies about how much of it he wrote and how much was written by his aides...the substance of the book was tremendously popular.

It profiled the courageous actions of Senators who stood up against popular noise to take courageous stands.

It supported the independence and courage of members of Congress to act as leaders.

That is no longer the case. Today, more than any other time in history we have a Congress, and specifically the TeaParty radicals in the House who simply will vote against the best interests of the United States, again and again, even when their own perspective is to not vote in this way.

How can this be. How can elected officials vote against what they know in their hearts and minds is in the best interests of the country.

The following description from a recent article by Bob Woodward describes how astonishingly cowardly and disgraceful the GOP teaparty members of the house have become.

It describes the negotiations between Obama and Bohner to avoid a fiscal cliff crisis which hit the US last year at the end of the year. Here are the relevant passages that describe how a majority of GOP members of the House voted against that which their smarts and instincts told them is the proper thing to do:

A long term "leader in Congress doesn't get there without being able to "count votes". To assess that 200 members of the house believed the vote was appropriate but wouldn't vote for it...is the most astonishing description of how the teaparty republicans are being horse whipped by independent, non accountable radical well funded outside sources that have simply scared the cr@p out of them...so they won't vote for what they know is the best course of action.

They are ch!cken sh!t, being led by the nose by the most extreme radical outside forces that pledge to run even more conservative candidates against a teaparty republican in a republican primary.

On the extreme right wing it doesn't matter if something will help or harm the best interests of the US. It doesn't matter if they will create a false catastrophe, it doesn't matter if it will cost people jobs, slow the economy, destroy the credit worthiness of the US...or any other consequences.

Once again the teaparty is threatening the financial health of the US by threatening to shut down the government because they don't like current politics. Once again they will threaten jobs, work, impair businesses and every element of the US to try and get their way.

It is by far the worst Congress that I have seen in many decades. The teaparty is astonishingly like The Muslim Brotherhood of Egypt that was recently deposed by a combination of opposing political perspectives and the military. In that case the Muslim Brotherhood actually gained control of the political forces within that nation and completely disregarded anything that was not directly connected to their radical political agenda. Egypt's already shaky economy tanked under the Muslim Brotherhood and the livelihoods of 10's of millions of Egyptians went under as the Muslim Brotherhood pursued its radical political agenda.

Right now the teaparty agenda in the US congress is moving along to try and create similar conditions in the US to what the Muslim Brotherhood created in Egypt. Its a disgrace....

...and as shown above an astonishing profile in cowardice.

Is this where we are all supposed to bemoan the fact the Tea Party blocked a tax increase? Let me grab a tissue.

But doesn´t Obama support Muslim brotherhood and Al Quada? Egypt (Muslim Brotherhood), Turkey (Muslim Brotherhood),Syria Rebels (Muslim Brotherhood and Al Quada),... are all his best friends so maybe he should start to support Teaparty too. After all Tea party can not be worse than Muslim Brotherhood.

I don't have much time for this forum but I found it hilarious that the extreme voice of the left is now in bed with the ultra extreme voices of the right. Well if your are ever more extreme and removed from the mainstream your bed mates will be extremists. It doesn't matter which side they started out believing in.

Once again instead of actually legislating the house puppets of extremist groups independent of a party or the main stream of America is putting the nation's financial stability at risk, threatening to put people out of work and screwing up the economy.

This is the 4th time they have done this since 2010. They have also voted to terminate Obamacare about 30-40 times without any success.

They are all frightened it is going to work. If you want even a vague idea what may occur look to Massachusetts which installed RomneyCare years ago.

It works. Over 95% of the state population is covered and its effect either positive or negative on the state economy is negligible.
It is the simplest easiest way to determine what might occur in the future. Of course one difference in Massachusetts and the US Congress is that there are members of both parties in that legislature that are neither puppets of a mafia like right wing group of extraordinarily wealthy people threatening every gop member of the house...and the legislature will address the legislation and continue to work on it to make it work better.

Anyway now that the DP extreme voice of the right and the left are in bed together and they incidentally are like all voices coming from Egypt blaming Obama....the existing government/military and the deposed muslim brotherhood all blame obama....

maybe the lesson should be take responsibility for something...unlike everyone in Egypt or any radical anywhere.

Actually take responsibility for one's vote rather than be a frightened puppet of a mafia like group of extreme right wing interest groups who spend all their efforts threatening everyone.

LOL. I remember the time when you were as zealous in supporting Bush as you are in supporting Obama. As an American, "Hail to the Chief" mantra can work for you but as a non American, I can look at the reality and call it as I see it.;):)
Nice work avoiding to discuss the fact that Al Quada is America´s new best friend.

Al Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood just want Obama to keep sending them free weapons, courtesy of the American taxpayer.

It shows that this is not about Islam, democracy, women's rights or even 9/11. Whoever can make the most profit for some American corporations is the USA´s new best friend. ;):)

Maybe some people with comments above can't read and don't understand the opening post. It is about the tea party and radical right wing so called representing the GOP. Currently they are once again threatening the financial health of the United States with a totally fabricated radicalism that suggests only the most extreme of perspectives. Its direct consequences would destroy the US financial system.

The tea party fanatics and the cowardly republicans are under the sway of a completely radical perspective primarily funded by a small cadre of extremely wealthy people unbeholden to anyone but their own incredibly wealthy bank accounts.

Long time Conservative writer Jennifer Rubin, who is and has been staunchly Republican, has been ripping the tea party congress, Ted Cruz currently, and independent mafia like right wing groups like Heritage's action group again and again as evidenced by this latest piece: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/right-turn/wp/2013/09/24/an-interesting-tuesday-lunch/

    and this piece: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/right-turn/wp/2013/09/22/who-is-helping-the-gop-in-the-senate/

Ever more Republicans with conservative agendas but not that radical destructive effort are disgusted with the radical tea party extremists, the mafia like independent groups that will endlessly fund ever more conservative candidates against any Republican that crosses their selfish agenda.

That is what the thread is about.

I used the phrase Muslim brotherhood as an analogy to these extremists. Having won power two years ago in Egypt the Muslim Brotherhood took control in Egypt, practiced a politics that was all about their extremism, made the economy in a poor country worse.

    Then they were driven out.

Frankly the US and Obama seem to have less than significant influence in that nation. And frankly the US was sending Egypt more or less ransom money when Mubarek was in power, when the Muslim Brotherhood was in power and now is sending the current military leaders money.

When in power the Muslim Brotherhood ignored the country and its economic situation got worse. The MB only legislated to make themselves more powerful. This is the exact analogy when right wing extremists get in power in different states in the nation. Texas and North Carolina with complete Right Wing legislators and governors are spending their precious time legislating laws against the process of democracy and making it ever more difficult to vote.

That is the analogy. Two selfish power mad groups that have no interest in taking care of people or improving their lots but are only interested in promoting their self serving radical perspectives.

Maybe these teaparty radicals should be called theatrical clowns
After staging a 21 hour purely theatrical talkathon, Ted Cruz who irritated many in his own party for his selfish reasons ended up voting with Democrats and a unanimous Senate to completely reverse that which he was speaking against. Its astounding this guy is actually being paid by tax payers as his entire agenda is to be self aggrandizing:

Following his big mouth effort he reversed himself and voted with Democrats:

David, I'm puzzled. If you miss my company that much, why not just be honest about it and write me a PM. You don't need to load up the forum with a bunch of hyperbolic nonsense to get attention. I'm here for you man.

Seriously, drop me a note and we can laugh it up about what a bang up job Obama has done for the economy. [IMG]

Its the labor force participation rate, at its lowest point since 1978, and falling. It is a much better illustration of the job Obama has done putting people to work than the Dow. After all, with the fed printing 39bn dollars a month, its hard to see how the Dow can't remain buoyant.

Almost any president who replaces Obama will be like Viagra for our economy, besides perhaps Biden. I think you should start getting used to the sound of "President Cruz".

It's funny how the so called democrats engage in a continuous fanatical anti-right campaign and are surprised when the right fights back instead of bending over.

With the help of the media.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2013/09/27/u...list-conditions-for-raising-debt-ceiling.html

It's not about the budget. . . Yeah, it's not about you bankrupting the country either, you buffoon!

No President before this one has ever, ever, EVER in history been SO irresponsible and so interested in his own agenda, completely ignoring what's best for the country.

What this thread is about is having people see just how mindless and cowardly the tea party members of congress are.

A little over 1 year ago they pulled the same stunt. An inveterate counter of potential votes identified that about 200 GOP members of Congress didn't want to vote for a shutdown.

But they did. They know its stupid. They are afraid of the mafia like control the most radical big money special interest groups like the Heritage Foundation. Cross groups like the Heritage Foundation and they will use the money they get from incredibly wealthy ultra conservatives to run a "more conservative candidate against an existing GOP member of the House or Senate.

It is the GOP overwhelmed by a mafia like group that threatens them to the bone.

    Now it is occurring again.

Here is a perspective on this issue from Conservatives:

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/opini...4e3a94-253d-11e3-b3e9-d97fb087acd6_story.html

    and another:

Conservatives courting a full fledged fiscal crisis!!!! Astounding. They aren't conservatives...they are radical extremists.

or as another described "intemperate minds and fairly radical tendencies

or as another described Kamikaze missions.

....and those are the perspectives of conservatives.

Its scary indeed when conservative voices turn on the so-called representatives of the GOP and see them as dangerous for the country.

American politicians are slaves to different interest groups and big money. What a surprise, NOT.:)
How much would the country be better off, If they were like the poor black kid, Mr. Obama who had to take out over 1 billion dollars from his piggy bank in order to get elected as the president?

Are there any 5 year olds out there that can explain what the word "compromise" means to earlpearl and Obama?

Earl, you as a business owner should know that not everything can go your way and not everyone is going agree with you. And your real leadership skills kick in when choosing how to deal with that.

Kind of strange that you could sit there and say that Obama handles this kind of stuff like a leader. Or that he is doing anything to better the situation. Again. . .

The pouting, makes him look like 3 year old (to most people).
