I guess not everyone was offended by a Muslim cleric calling women "uncovered meat"

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=412697&in_page_id=1770

I wonder if there's anything in the Koran about taking responsibility for your own actions and not giving in to your sinful desires no matter how tempted you are.

Last I checked David didn't blame Bethsheba(sp?) for being too hot.

Even if you find a dress provocative it never gives you the right to rape a female.
If the clerics say women should owe the responsibility i would say he is nothing more than a MCP(Male Chauvenistic Pig).

Has the koran permitted the muslim men to violate the women just because they have caught his fancy?

I'd genuinly like to see some verses from the Koran that would show that Islam expects a strong moral character including self control.

The Bible makes it rather clear that we are not to give in to our lustful desires. I wonder if the Koran does the same.

    WTF!

I'd like to use that in court...sir, well, she was dressed provactively, so it's her fault she got raped. She's got to realize I want sex, and she has to dress-up in order for me not to rape her.

    Like that would work!?

They're just immigrating too quickly in Europe. They have to boost their standards and lower their numbers.

In Iran, women get stoned to death and/or hung for the crime of having been raped.

Just regular ol' murder is the punishment in Bethlehem:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=423126&in_page_id=1770

Just one more thing for islamic apologists and revisionists to sweep under the carpet of "political correctness."

I'm still waiting for verses from the Koran that in some way speak against this idiocy.

    same problem in France...

for many years and up to recently there was basically no immigration policy for north Africans (who are predominantly Muslim). Now there is one, but its very very flexible.

That's what's depressing. There's only one thing these people care about and it's completely useless to change their behavior.

While it wasn't written to cover this exact issue, an article written by Jamal A. Badawi, Ph.D. World Assembly of Muslim Youth for the Islamic Circle of North America on the subject of gender equality in Islam can be read at: http://www.whyislam.org/877/Gender_Issues/Gender_Equity.asp

One important point that would probably be relevant for any religion, but the author emphasized at the beginning of his paper is that there must be a clear distinction between the normative teachings in scriptures and the diverse cultural practices of those who follow a religion.

Using Christianity as an example, the way Christian men treat women in the developed world (e.g. U.S. or in this case Norway) vs. the under developed world (e.g. Christians in parts of Africa) is vastly different.

In the reading and research I have been doing for the other threads on this topic and what was written in the article I just referenced, there is no doubt that these men have no defense in Islamic scriptures. In fact even passages quoted in the article I just mentioned prohibit doing evil unto women.

The simple sad fact is that some cultures (e.g. secular mores) simply place a lower value on human life and many uneducated people use excuses to defend their actions. These claims we are seeing from these non-Western men in the case mentioned in this thread are no different then the attitudes we saw here in the U.S. from supposedly Christian people up until very recently (e.g. within the last fifty years). All too often the defense used was she was asking for it by the way she dressed. Really it has only been within the last twenty years that women who had been raped had a half way decent chance to find justice through the courts.

I even remember as a kid in the South (southern Virginia) hearing people whisper about how "she had been asking for it", or "that's what she gets for dressing that way."

This type of treatment of women isn't unique to any culture or religion it is a simple matter that society has historically not treated women very well and only recently have they truly begun to be treated as equals in developed societies.

KLB... you are nothing but a paper tiger. Worse, you are a straw dog.

You just ain't got the guts.

You say muslims worship Christ. Yet by your meandering college scholar antics you show you actually have no idea who Christ was. You don't even know what the Trinity is.

You hide your head in the sand at your own peril. This is the time to stand up. Instead - you kss ass.

Imagine, just imagine, how exciting, and gratifying it might actually be to stand up for a real cause.

You will miss the real party, bro.

Fortunately islamic apologists and revisionists tend to stick together in their deceit of others. For every effort they put forth to mislead and misrepresent others in the name of "political correctness," others with far more knowledge and understanding are prepared to counter the whitewashing of facts offered.

Such is the case, again, with yet another attempt to make something appear differently than it is.

A Rebuttal of Jamal Badawi's "Wife Beating" by Silas at Answering Islam.

Silas begins by pointing out the obvious, of why islamic apologists seek to cover up the truth and the motivation they have in doing so.

Next begins the point of refutation. Silas begins by noting Badawi used a modified version of quranic text, listing it, then goes on to break it down and show how deceptive it is.

He continues pulling points from Badawi's misleading article, breaking them down and using scriptures and context to discredit them.

In his conclusion, Silas notes (only a portion copied here):

What we can pull from this, and several other articles being offered by deceptive and deceitful apologists looking to rewrite the truth is that for every effort they put forth to mislead others, someone is right there to counter their untruthful attempts.

Signatures are going for $15-$50 bucks these days. How much does one sell their integrity for?

You don't even know what the definition of a straw dog is.

You also can't argue on the facts like others here so you have to stoop to personal attacks. There is nothing you can say that would disprove what I just posted because it is the truth. These men didn't attack women because they are Muslim and Islam allowed it. They attacked the women because they are sexual predators just like the Catholic priests who molested little boys. Are all Christians or all priests child molesters because of a handful of sick priests?

Your problem is that for too long you have had free range on this forum to spread lies and hatred to suit your personal religious objectives. Now that someone has the guts to stand up to you in these forums and provide an honest perspective about issues like this all you can do is launch into personal attacks.

The simple fact of the matter is you and others here are intolerant bigots who hate Muslims and try to preach a perverted view of what Islam is to justify your hatred. I may not be a great Islamic scholar but I do know people who are and I am able to find plenty of sources to show the real Islam.

As a religion, Islam is not my "cup of tea" but I will not stand idly by while intolerant people spread hatred and intolerance for other cultures and religions. The only thing that comes from hatred and intolerance is violence and acts that incite violence or spread hatred are not Christian behaviors.

I like how KLB offered exactly zero verses from the Koran that would in any way demand that Muslims not give into their lustful desires. That they not harm other people. That they take responsibility for their own actions.

Just more fluff that nobody who matters (the people who commit these crimes) cares about.

If it's not in the Koran, they aren't going to listen. GTech is on the right track:

Where in the Koran is a woman praised and respected?

Let's start with a simple challenge like that.

The challenge was for verses from the Koran. Not speculation. You've offered no Koranic support for your views. You can say such and such is in the Koran all you want. But you need to actually point us to verses.

    This is pathetic KLB.

Where are the verses from the Koran that show respect for all women? I don't want commentary from you. I want you to quote in this thread specific verses that give examples or commands to respect ALL women.

If you'll recall Jesus saved the life of an adulteress. Befriended a "common woman." And spoke no ill of a women who had married and divorced 5 men and was currently living with a boyfriend. Jesus spoke against even lusting after women. Where does the Koran say to not lust after women?

The first acticle only provides support against infanticide and not being a dick to your wife. It's very telling that the very same article has no scriptural support for anything it says about rape.

The second article is pure commentary and has nothing from the Koran.

Do you see how easy it is to pull up examples of respect and kindness for all women from the Bible and how it's like pulling teeth to get you to find similar examples from the Koran itself?

READ THE LINKS I POST WHY DON'T YOU! The verses you want are quoted in those articles. The last link in particular goes into great detail about this. The other articles also reference specific scriptural passages that are relevant to this discussion. I can't help those who do not read.
