Proffesionalism on DP is just as important, if not more so than other places. People claim constantly to be capable of performing tasks, and being able to do everything, but they have no proof, have poor grammar, when applying for a job they have poor etiquette and are rude, or their promises are hollow. Finding a true professional on DP is becoming more tedious and more difficult, and people are breaking the rules not just of the forum, but of professionalism itself. (As for me, I am a hypocrite.) An Example Message I have received for a Job offer: “Hw much $$$ is it? Yo I wud lke 2 kno mor about the jub offr.†What’s wrong with this Message? 1. Poor Grammar and spelling. 2. Rude Etiquette. 3. The person didn’t even send a sample, resume, or portfolio. 4. They didn’t even question the details of the assignment before asking about the payment. Just to name a few. These are messages I receive all of the time, and they never change. These people honestly are surprised when they receive a rejection PM, later on. An Example of an excellent message I received was: """"msn - --------------- Skills: • Bachelor of Business Administration. • Drupal, Dreamweaver, HTML, Photoshop. • Wordpress theme editing (CSS). • Great writer with proper English. They have recently just launched a new website (www.century21colonial.com) so I have been concentrating on building relevant real estate links to their website. Why was it great? 1. Detailed Information on themselves 2. Services 3. Good Etiquette Just to name a few. Also: PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE look AT THE ENTIRE POST. Do not keep pming the person if they already put the position has closed. Also, I cannot stand Buyers who are unspecific on exactly it is they would like, and what the Job Entails: An Example: “Hello, I would like 10 link builders, Pm 4 more info.†Why don’t you simple look for posts by link builders and pm them for their services. There are at least 20 of them. Things to Include in a job Offer:  Position or Project  Position responsibilities and what it entails  Pay or what range you are looking for  When they would start  When the project ends  How long it is until it closes  How to contact you.  How much experience you would like  What info you would like them to pm you. It makes everything run smoother, less questions, and more time for the project itself. But remember: If you go for cheap, you will get what you pay for. Just a few more Tips: For Buyer 1. Post that the job offer has closed when finish. 2. Be sure that you both can contact each other at anytime.(Within Reason) For Seller of Services: 1. Stay Professional 2. Stay Motivated and Stick With It. This was just something I wanted to write. Reply if you want to add something. Thank you, Max
your post is very messy. Anyway did you know there is people outside DP that kill people if they not get some work done in time. I think DP is not worse then other places.
I tend to agree with you. I sell my services and always try to be as friendly and helpful as possible, while still maintaining a high level of professionalism, and I haven't had any complaints to date. To be honest, although we can't stop these sort of applications, you know not to pick the person, and the majority of the time the job applications you recieve will be of a decent quality. Btw, +rep for the post, and also, I think admin should sticky this in the BST section
Even i do agree to you to a certain degree! BUT its not always that people who address you as "DUDE" "Mate" "Yo Sup Man" We can always be friendly with our clients ! ... We are CO-OPERATES here after all ! But i totally agree that we need to give some proof to prove ourselves if not a detailed resume!
I agree, this is business. It's only for professionals, if you're not professional you won't get anywhere in business.
I suggest you tame/limit the active links in your post. There are just too darn many active links people might think this was written not to tackle professionalism but to get good backlinks. Professionalism is a tricky word. The meaning for one may be different to another. You also cannot teach it to someone else. That person should learn and realize the true essence of professionalism on his/her own.
I agree it is good to be professional but the Ops example of “professional†gives me the impression of a school kid trying to submit a resume and that would make me think inexperienced. I would skim it and immediately go to the next applicant. I don’t care if someone calls me dude or uses slang I like working with colorful people as long as they are polite and legit.
Mostly agree with you here. I wanted to test 3 article re-writers (i had received interest from over 20) and gave them each an article. Only one of them ever got back to me and his work was very good so I immediately discounted the others and went with him full time. So for anyone who is looking for article writing/re-writing jobs please make sure that you are prompt with your articles and if there is going to be some delay that you tell the buyer in question.
You've got your point over there. Sometimes when I head over to the content creation section, I also noticed the same kind of scenario with some members offering article writing services but the main header itself contain grammatical and spelling error. It really looks awkward.
Good tips by the OP which is some informative reading. Professionalism is important and presentation is part of Professionalism. Overall, your post is great, maybe some improvements on the presentation would make it far more professional and emphasize your points much better. Just my 2 cents.
"I like working with colorful people as long as they are polite and legit." Dude, you are going to extreme...
You make some very valid points in your post although I don't normally respond initially with my resume. Unfortunately, the reason that you see so much of this on the "writer's" end is that these people are still getting jobs through DP although they obviously lack the necessary skills. There are many content buyers who don't seem to care about the quality of their website content as long as it is cheap and fast.
I don't fully agree with the OP. I agree with the "proof of work" part, but not with the etiquette part. I have been on DP for almost 3 years now. I have come across dozens of members who are professional with their work, but rarely present/communicate well. Just a few days back, I was looking for a web-designer for a particular project. I liked the work of a particular designer and I asked him if he could come online (chat) to discuss the project. He gave me a two line answer: he didn't have the time to discuss anything and that I should just mail him the requirements. He would make a basic design and show it to me. If I liked it, he would go ahead and complete the project. To many, this short and direct answer would seem unprofessional. However, it must be kept in mind that many of the good services providers actually have a lot of work. They have to interact with many many people daily. I found nothing wrong with his reply. I asked him to make a rough design and later gave him the project too.
Yeah, you get what you pay for a lot of people on here are just building junk sites and need dirt cheap content. I need some content myself but after looking at some of the stuff here.. I’m doing myself and waiting until I can hire a higher quality writer. I talked to a few career professional writers this week and they charge $40-$60 hr but they are good at what they do and people pay it and have very nice content when it's is done. A penny a word well…. You will probably get a Nigerian with an 8th grade education. If you are lucky you might find a collage student that needs practice.
Sorry, but I have to disagree with this. I personally offer extremely cheap writing services (around $0.008, but I don't know the exact amount). Why do I do it this cheap? Not because I'm a crap writer, but because there are so many writers who are charging so little that I have to reduce my prices to be noticed. Also, I only really write within my chosen niche, so I find the articles fairly easy to write. So, please, don't just assume...
I was hoping someone would disagree with me.. Are you interested in maybe writing a few technical articles? About graphics. I am struggling with a few different content projects right now and really need to find a good writer that not expensive but I’m not interested in hacked out junk.
Thanks for the feedback, and for the comments on the article. I am a writer myself, and I currently attend the Charleston Academy of Arts. The one thing they stress on a daily basis, is proffesionalism, proffesionalism, proffesionalism.
The OP has some valid points but it is mixed with a bunch of non essential links. However, to expect professionals, we need to start only hiring quality and not go for cheap. There is a huge market for cheap non talented people on DP. For this reason, you will still receive those types of replies to any offer to do a job. In my opinion, if you want the kind of replies you are asking for, you need to look on professional job sites and not DP. The problem is that you lowered your prices so low that you are forcing the crap writers to lower their prices even more. That is a reason you may be lumped in by association. I lowered mine to $.02 a word and it made no difference at all. As you can see, I have high iTrader with all positive comments. However, I quit offering writing services on here because the buyers often times will still go for the cheap writer and bitch later that he got ripped off. Now I will only write blog posts from here and get most of real writing jobs elsewhere.
