Contest Professional corporate logo with creativity - $50 first place, $10 second place prizes

    Hello designers,

I am looking for a professional logo for the following name:
    zag.jpg
    Please follow the following guidelines:
    1. The sample is NOT meant to be a guide for the type of art or colors - only to show you that I would like (a) the first three letters to be CAPITALIZED and thicker BLOCK letters (not just lines); and (b) the rest of the name to be just all lowercase.
    2. The first three letters should be BLOCK letters like you see in the example. The second half can just be normal or also thicker as you think will look best so that it all blends into one artistic outcome.
    3. The concept of this logo will be related to CARS and driving and the road. This is for a company that will sell to owners of cars, so I would like the concept of driving/road/cars etc to somehow be symbolized in the logo. My suggestions are either (a) LANE MARKERS (you know, like the white lines that separate lanes on a street or the 'yellow double lines' that separate a road into two directions of traffic); (b) TIRE TREAD MARKS (the impression of tire marks on a road, the black treads).
    4. I would like the Z in the name to represent the "zag" motion...so please look up in google images or somewhere else for ideas. What I would like to see most likely is for the Z to *start in an ARROW* and for the bottom of the Z to EXTEND to the "p" and underline the whole word ZAG, then also *end in an ARROW* - something like this example:
    zagshow.jpg
    5. This logo needs to look "professional" in that this will NOT be for a Web 2.0 company or internet website. This will be something that is printed on signs and banners - also to be printed on physical goods/items made of plastic. So I am NOT looking for 'shadows' or 'reflections' or anything very modern and colorful, etc. This will be a more serious corporate logo.
    6. The only THREE colors I would like to have included in this logo are: BLACK, YELLOW, and WHITE. The yellow should be similar to 'double yellow lines' that are road markers on streets (https://www.google.com/search?q=double+yellow+lines&aq=f&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&authuser=0&ei=E9FEUcjuKKmB0AHA2oCwCQ&biw=1366&bih=653&sei=FdFEUeftNYrp0AHms4HwDw)

Please let me know if you have any extra questions but hopefully this is enough detail.

    Thanks!

I will keep this contest open for about 4-5 days until I see a logo that I like very much for this concept. Please submit as many ideas and versions as you can come up with.

Thank you for the two entries so far! Looking forward to more, but some feedback in the meantime:

zombygeek: This is definitely a great start. What I do like is the lines/streak across the logo in the back. Unfortunately there are definitely a lot of parts that would need change: (a) those are definitely the correct colors (black and yellow) but the background of my website, print materials, etc will be WHITE so I can't have the logo on a yellow background - the colors would have to be incorporated into the logo together and on a white background; (b) please take a look at my suggestions/directions again, I would like the Z to have some arrows/zig-zag elements to it, the street you included has some slight hint of that but unfortunately it makes the logo too 'busy' and even hides the letter Z too much (but I like the creativity :); (c) I was hoping to see the word 'pass' in lowercase...you still have uppercase large capitalized letters, except just smaller - I was thinking the 'p' would extend below the rest of the letter. Thanks for the submission!

saud: I appreciate your time but unfortunately this is not of the style that I am looking for in this logo. It looks to shiny/modern/science-fiction style. Maybe it's partly the font. But I also mentioned in my instructions that I do NOT want anything with shades/shadows/bevels/etc like you made the word 'pass'. Thanks for including the arrows in the Z but it looks to disconnected as a logo.

Background was just a background. Final version will be transparent. I added the yellow in the logo. Road is now slimmer, more readable. Also added arrows on the ends.

I still think 'pass' needs to be in small caps though. It makes me think NASCAR. People might see small caps and already have cars in mind from looking at previous logos. Lowercase letters just don't feel car-ish to me. Anyway, it's lowercase for now :).

EDIT: Last minute updates. Lines in background were to dense, Also made them flat on the bottom side, hardly noticeable but it makes the letters line up with it better. Also thickened up the line on the road.

Road even more slim. No more link between Z and A which makes the Z look more like a Z. Arrows are also smaller.

Edit: More yellow, less orange version.

Hi everyone thank you for continuing to pour in the submissions! Much appreciated on the work.

ing_pacz: I do like your concept and the overall 'simplicity' of it while still incorporating some motion/directionality. This might be a start to something, but in its current form for me it would not fit what I'm looking for quite right. For one I would like to see it on a white background but have the content of the logo incorporate the two-three colors. Also with the current font, the letters are too much on top of each other. And I do like the arrow so tough for me to suggest a specific change there, but I wonder if something can be done to make it relate better to something symbolic of cars/roads/parking/etc not just direction and motion? Would be happy to refine this more with you to see what it could become - but I do like the layout/positioning of top/bottom that you have.

umxca: Thanks for the submission, but I like the style of some of the other submissions better so will go with those instead for now. I'm looking for simple but not 'too' simple.

zombygeek: Thanks for the quick changes and great edits to the logo. Your submissions are the front-runner right now and I like the direction that it is taking. I appreciate you clearly putting extra thought and effort into this to help guide what it can become. Your thoughts and suggestions are actually quite good - I fully agree with you on the NASCAR association...so you're right, let's make the second part capitalized as well and NOT lowercase after all. Glad you pushed for that. The less dense lines are great and the separation of the Z is definitely better. I like the road with the arrows now. Some other thoughts for edits that I'm open to discussing or hopefully to see how they look if you think they could improve the logo: (a) I do wonder if the "Z" is too disguised with the road on it...would it look OK if the road were narrower or maybe the same width from top to bottom? I know some of the perspective and depth would be lost on the change in distance for the road, but then maybe the Z would be come more visible...; (b) I do like the direction towards yellow more than the orange, but at the same time the orange was easier on the eyes...is there maybe an in-between that we can try between that bright yellow and the orange?; (c) I'd be curious to see if the PASS would look good as NOT italics...seems like right now it has a slant to it. But could be that it's better with the slant of course. // I think with these changes that would give me a chance to re-look again on what the concept could look like. Thanks again!

khai budz: Thanks for the participation in this contest as well. I think I like some of the other concepts a bit better here. This one is too disjointed and doesn't have the right "flow" to it - the separation of the road underneath...the changes in font don't flush well either in my eyes. The sizing proportions are off as well. I'll be looking to continue with some of the other submissions instead.

logoesdesign: Thanks for participating but this would not be the style that I am looking for so I will be continuing with some of the other submissions.

Santacruz: I like the racing/flag blocks from your second submission, but unfortunately overall the logos just don't seem to fit what I'm looking for. There is just too much spacing and things are disconnected. The font is too 'futuristic' and I am looking for more corporate touch & feel. But appreciated.

frikusha: Thank you for being pretty much the one person who actually followed my requests in the list of items that I have in my first intro post. This is closest to what I envisioned in terms of formatting, but unfortunately not in terms of style and presentation. It is much too simple - almost something I could make in Microsoft Word in WordArt with some edits in Paint. I am looking for something that flows better and has a more unified branding image.

For the thickness of the road, I'll let you decide. I like both, but I think I'm leaning more towards the perspective version. As for the slanted and non-slanted. Diagonals create movement which could further be associated with cars. So I like the italics version. Also, the A was off centered, so I centered it. Also, the color is exactly between the orange and the yellow. And just in case you noticed the little weird things on the top of SS's on the first logo, it's just an artifact when I saved the "quick and easy way" and won't be there on the final version.
