Products vs. SEO, which should I focus on?

I own a commerce site offering thousands of products. In the course of a day, am I better off spending more time on adding products so my line is on par with competitors or work on seo? And by adding more products, does that not help me in searches for unique product search terms?

Although search engines are overrated, why can you do both?

I meant getting links, writing articles, blogs, etc. vs just loading products on my site

You should SEO your site, but don't forget to add fresh new content (uptodate products).
That's a lot of work, I hope you have someone to help you.

adding more and more content will kill your site if you don't get more links
more and more pages will end up in the supplementary index...
stop adding more content and get some backlinks and depending on your programming skills improve your CMS..which I am pretty sure is quite bad in duplicate content and spiderability matters
and get more and more links...especially deep links
that is what I'd do if that was my site
    cheers,

You can have all the content in the world but if people don't visit the site what good is it?

I don't think you can have a sucessful website without both. You should probably be spending equal amounts of time on both. Good Luck!

I think u should do both. If u dont have the time, then Hire someone who can do SEO for u.

without traffic, adding new and new products will bring no good.

also, if u have lot of traffic but no new or uptodate products, then this will also not bring much good
