Please advise only if you have been into affiliate marketing for sufficiently good amount of time. What has worked better for you? Selling Products (from CJ, Shareasale, etc) or eBooks from Clickbank. I am a little afraid to use CB affiliates simply because most of the ebooks I've purchased have been worthless and i do not want my readers to stop trusting my site to purchase in future. -Knewthis?
I've made money with all of the above. If you have a blog, you can use the Open Auctions Wordpress Plugin to integrage eBay auctions right in your blog and it's free. Check my sig for the link. CB has some good products that can do well for you too. Pepperjam is probably my fav affiliate network with Azoogle followed closely behind. CJ is good too, but a bit overwhelming for a newbie. Pick one of the above and get really good at it, then work your way out from there.
I wouldn't worry about people reading an eBook and getting upset, never to return to your site again. Truth is, unless you've got a really sticky site, most of your visitors are not going to return and purchase from you again anyways. It usually works best to promote a single product or eBook with each website. It would take much more time and effort to make a portal site where you sold many different products or eBooks from different niches. Pick a niche that has a good amount of searches every month, at least 20k, and not that many competitors on Google, under 250k is preferable. That way it will be easier for you to rank for your terms in the search engines and get more organic traffic.
@JoshTodd Your advice was pretty generic and is not going to apply to all kinds of websites. You've presumed my website is one of the several sales-letter kind of sites with a few testimonials, and ten articles linking to it. This is not the case. My website is indeed a portal which caters to several niches (in different subdomains though) and has lots of repeat visitors. Besides, selling a product which guarantees an utility can seem to sell better than yet another google-researched ebook. -Knewthis?
