Hi, I'm trying to update my product info/detail page SEO URLs, and I'm trying to see what the best way to do this is. I currently changed it to this: www.domain.com/section_name/product_type/product_title.html Is including the "section_name" and "product_type" in the product URL a good idea to do?? Is there anything else I should change regarding the product info/details page?? Thank you,
I think it would depend on how long the names are for the sections, product types and products themselves. You don't want to create excessively long urls. Another thing to consider is whether the product type and section name might ever be used in a keyword search for that product...ie "product_name + section_type". If those words never get included in searches for the product name, it could just be diluting your more important url keywords. Also consider whether people need to know the product type and section name for your niche. In some niches, the classifications are obvious by looking at the product. In other niches, the customers need to be told exactly what the product is or what it's for.
Usually for my product names I end up just doing a mod rewrite to make them look like 'domain.com/product-name.html'. That puts most focus on the keywords in the product name. As mentioned in my last post, it depends on the exact circumstances.
I agree with vansterdam, leave out the product type and section name and go for ... domain-name.com/product-name.html to emphasise the product name more strongly. What you could also do is create list pages using ...domain-name.com/product-type/ that lists all products of that type split into 10 or 20 entries per page.
