Product creation or become an affilliate?

I'm currently in the process of building my list and I wanted to know if I would be better starting off with another person's product or creating my own from the beginning?

From what I've found there is benefits to both. Some of have told me to create my product first so I can start my subscribers off with a branded line of products from the beginning. Others have told me that starting as an affiliate would be instant money and that product creation would take time.

Another viewpoint is that starting as an affiliate while creating my own product behind the scenes would be the optimal choice so I can make profit from the get go while also preparing to venture into my own product.

Just wanted to get your opinions since I'm not too familiar with (edit) online product sales either way.

    Thanks :D

In my opinion, I think that if you only want to create your own product, there must be a certain budget for you to outsource the essential things such as ebook cover, legal rights, contents page, all the graphical designs etc. Also, your knowledge must be really sufficient to create something to benefit people. For affiliate marketing, u just have to focus on the marketing strategies and it is easier and at the same time profitable if you manage to do it correctly. I would say affiliate marketing contains lower risk than own product creation since your investment for outsourcing might not work out.

Still, to create your own product or affiliate marketing really depends on yourself to try it out. There is no such thing as a better option, it just depends on the work u are willing to put in

The cover, graphics, and contents page would be taken care of. The only thing I would need to figure out would be legal rights. Thanks for the tip on that, completely spaced this one.

I also don't mind putting in the extra effort that would come with creating my own product if that was a concern.

if you have a business plan with your own product and have a decent chance of succeeding, then go for it. however, calculate the product cost, marketing cost, etc. also need to consider warehousing, shipping, billing, refunds, customer support, etc.

with affiliate products, you just sell the product and let your merchant do all of those for you. you just get a certain % in commission.

each has its own pros and cons. you just have to decide which one is the valid business model for you.

According to Ewen Chia, you should start off as an affiliate because it's a lot easier. Good luck :)

Its going to be much easier to become an affiliate first.

After you become and affiliate and start to get the hang of thing you can move on to product creation. Your going to need the skills that you developed as an affiliate to fully market the product that you intend to create.

Yes,becoming an affiliate is much easier and you can build your own list at the same time by giving away a free report,Once you have established a trusting relationship with your readers, you can introduce them to your own products.

I'm a member of multiple forums, google what I want to know, and happen to ask opinions sometimes when I want to hear advice from someone that might have more experience than me. asking for opinions isn't asking someone to teach me IM.... o.o

You have explained all the options very well so why not just do what
you are confident with. It all depends on your personal situation and
the amount of time you have to invest.

I am. I'm finishing up my freebie for my list, and once that's done I am going to start working on my product. If my estimated time to finish it takes longer than my buildup of subs from the freebie, then I'm going to jump on affiliating until it's done.

    Thanks for the comments!

It totally depends on your own choice. Being affiliate is easy and from very beginning you can start earning. Creating own product is little bit time consuming and you may take a greater risk than affiliate marketing. And always, where the risk is high, the possibility of return is also high.

I think if you have the budget, then creating your own product is always the best idea. However, if you are just starting and/or have a limited budget, then promoting other products is by far teh best option.

Creating your own product is no easy job. Unless you are an all round expert, you will need to outsource a lot of things.

Become an affiliate to test the keyword/market demand. Make a product if it turns out profitable.

I have enough capital to create a product. I can outsource for what will need to be outsourced and I also have some designing experience with photoshop and other programs.

Do you think if I plan to release a series of products that sending them offers from someone else will hinder my releases? I mean will all of the random products I've sent them make them not notice that I am actually going to be steadily releasing a stream of products that all pertain to each other?
