So I have a processor/server question. I have a a few sites that use alot of db's and wanted to get some feedback on two processors.

Which one is better and why?

    -Pentium 4 Hyper-Threading Technology (Pentium 4 3.0 GHZ Hyperthreaded)

    or

-Dual Xeon HT Processors (Dual Xeon 2.8GHZ EMT64)

Xeons are better than Pentium 4s... they are just designed to do server tasks vs. desktop tasks. Even better though are the AMD Opteron processors... they kick the Xeon's ass.

Well, the Dual Opteron 246 Processors (64 Bit!) is the same price for me as the Dual Xeon HT (64 Bit!).

    So now I'm leaning towards:

-Dual Opteron 246 Processors (64 Bit!)
    -2GB DDR Registered ECC
-Dual 36GB SCSI / Hardware Raid 1 (or maybe the Dual 73GB SCSI / Hardware Raid 1)

I have a Pentium 4 now and this new set up is only a few bucks more per month.
