Problems with UK campaigns - Inaccurate Display URL

Discussion in 'Google AdWords' started by johndoes, Oct 10, 2008.

I'm new to Adwords / CPA couple. I've been trying to promote Affiliace campaigns for the last two days.

I set up campaigns both for US and UK. US campaigns are fine (altough I don't see any impressions or clicks :)) but all of my ad groups for UK are disapproved because of "Inaccurate Display URL". I'm using the click code of the campaigns both for destination url and display URL.

    display URL: [http://]affiliace.directtrack.com
    destination URL: [http://]affiliace.directtrack.com/z/<camp. id>/<my id>/

This format works for US campaigns, but for the UK campaigns, it says
    "Inaccurate Display URL"

Is the problem about the redirection from the click code to the landing page?
If so, how does the US campaigns work?

Or (I know it's ridiculous) can't adwords "view" the page at the click URL because it's geo-targeted to UK but not US?

    Any help greatly appreciated.

I presume that the affiliate domain you have redirects to another domain? What i would do, and this works for me, is copy the page url you end at when you put in your affiliate domain. Then put this domain in both the destination and the display url. Then, edit the urls for each keyword individually for the actual domain you were given, which it doesn't like. :)

FYI, you can't use direct linking with adwords.

You mean the code from the affiliate network?

Then do I have to prepare intermediate landing pages and then direct the users to the actual landing page?

Does http / javascript redirects work?

I can't try myself cause I have another problem with my account.

When you click your affiliate link, what url do you end up on?

Let's say you end up on:

    Domainabc.com

So in your adwords account, your display url would be:

    Domainabc.om

Your destination url for your ads would be:

    http://affiliace.directtrack.com/z/

Since the destination url ends up on the display url domain, you're fine.

You can direct link with adwords, not sure why anyone would think you can't.

    :)

    Of course, you can.

As PPC-Coach said . . . Make sure that the primary domain of your destination URL is the same as the primary domain of your landing page, and your ads will stop being disapproved.

Hello all, thanks for the replies.

Adwords works somehome "retarded" for me. When I started this thread, I had US campaigns having the click URL both for destination and display URL, and adwords didn't complaint about them. But about 3 days after, it now says the display URL is incorrect for the US campaigns either.

So, I believe the problem is not about the UK campaigns. I'll try changing the display URL.

    Thanks a lot

OK. I prolly missed that point. There is however a way to do this more effectively which i wouldn't like to discuss here. Again direct linking will kill your quality score drastically. Another important thing, if you and others using the same destination url, only one ad will be shown. So potentially if someone already running the ad with that destination url, your ad is wasted. Correct me if i am wrong.

My campaign was slapped within 1 week. Anyways i dont promote that product anymore, it was just one off thing.

Have you confirmed if the affiliate URL is the same for the landing page... normally the affiliate URL's are just tracking URL's and redirect to the offer landing page... so you may have,

    Affiliate URL: abc.com/offer/affid
    Actual URL: merchant.com/someid

So you will need to use merchant.com in your display URL, you may have the abc.com/offer/affid in the destination URL since anyway the final landing page is merchant URl...

    Hope this makes sense

johndoes. I have the exact same problem.
In the destination url, I put the one that the affiliate network gives me.
in the display url, i put the domain (the blahblah.com part) of where they will end up. I still get that stupid inaccurate display url crap.
