Problems with AdSense earnings

    Hi!

I'm using a 'blog service called MyBlogLog (go to: http://www.mybloglog.com/buzz/members/Octane/)

In my statistics page, I've noticed a bunch of items in my 'What Readers Clicked' panel which I'm unsure about. One example being:

    Google AdSense (180x150)
    http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com#180x150

Now, this matches exactly with a Google AdSense advert block I have, yet if this is a click, how come I'm not registering this with my Google AdSense account?

Over the past 6 or so days, I've seen about 10 of these, which seems to me to be lost earnings.

As of yesterday, the same thing happend again, but this time, I got some really, really weird results in my Reports -> Overview window:

I got a page eCPM of between US$0.02 and US$0.10 across Channel pages and Channel adverts, but no clicks.

Then, a few hours later, I got earnings of US$0.01 but still no clicks.

I've posted on Google Groups, but no one is answering.

    Anyone know what's going on?

The earnings was generated from CPM (cost per 1,000 impressions.)

    Hi Richie!

So I can earn simply as a result of the number of adverts I'm running?

Also, what about the losts clicks? Got any thoughts on that?

It depends on how it is counting the 'clicks' .. many (all?)click-loggers use the mouseover() function to count a click - meaning that all the visitor has to do is park their mouse over the ad for a few seconds and it will register it as a click. I use Adlogger, and this is how it works.

    Hi!

I'm just using the Google AdSense web page to monitor movement.

So a click can not be a click .. but is?!

    I'm totally confused, now...

Only adsense stats are accurate, all other tracking scripts are only for possible clicks.

And earnings with impressions won't bring you any good money.

    You said:
    But you also said:
Where do you see this "What my readers clicked"? Because this is NOT part of the Google AdSense Stats page -
    Now I'm confused..

    Hi!

When I saw the US$0.01 for the eCPM, I did think it would be a long slog to the top of the 'blogging food chain with earnings like that.

OK, so what's a "possible click" and how does that work?

Octane, listen closely to this. Google adsense tracks all clicks out of your website. If you receive a click on an ad on your website, it will show up in your stats (with a delay). Now all adsense tracking programs, (you are using MyBlogLog to track your adsense) do their best to track adsense clicks. Unfortunately, there is no way to track a click on an adsense ad for Netscape based browsers (Netscape, Firefox, etc). These browsers are tracked by javascript that checks to see if the user has their mouse over an ad, and then leaves the page. So if someone using firefox puts their mouse over your ad, then navigates to the previous page by pressing alt+left arrow, your Bloglog will GUESS that they must have clicked the ad, because their mouse was over the ad, and they left the page. For internet explorer, tracking can be more accurate, but still if someone clicks on an ad and doesnt release their mouse button, they would not actually navigate to the ad page, but BlogLog would sense that they clicked the ad, and count that as a click. Overall, Adsense tracking scripts (BlogLog) are inaccurate, and the stats you should trust are Google's stats. You are not losing out on clicks, so stop worrying. If no clicks show up in your Adsense stats on Google's sites, no one has clicked your ads.

Well i feel it could be possible that the guys are clicking on your site but dont visit the site..You got what i meant? They stop the loading immediately? What happens in that case?

Wondering if google wont pay for that click..Of course other programs will register it.

H Giraph, and thanks for the clarification.

Incidentally, I wasn't worried, I was confused. Totally different state of mind.

    I'm a Smallman, I don't do worrying.

Besides, my earnings are less than a dollar a day, so it's not like I'm losing rent money or anything...

The current version of adlogger (1.23) does not use that method. Now uses the following (I don't like it): When the user leaves the page, a "beforeunload" javascript event is caught, and the script check mouse position against iframes positions. If the mouse is inside an ad block a click is counted.

This is what I was told by the guys at MyBlogLog:

A rolling average sounds extremely odd to me. More like an art than a science.

So potentially, a spike in earnings due to hard-earned traffic might be averaged out into a small hump, rather than a pronounced spike...
