Problems Accessing Certain Sites and Now All my Sites at One Host

I have been having problems off and on for a few months now, many sites I try and access are giving me the error 'can not find server' now all my sites from a single hosting account (around 25 of them) either go to google search after about a minute or give the error 'cannot find server'. I can access all these sites fine from a proxy.

I spoke to my IP a few weeks ago and they did say there have been some problems with ip's being blocked in some places and they could manually change my ip.

What is causing my problem and why did it just seem to start now that I can't access all the sites from one certain host?

In case it matters here are a couple of the sites I can't access from my host.

    www.portal4music.com
    www.2blogfinance.com
    www.blog4travel.com

Any help would be appreciated, I also hope I posted in the right section, if not can a mod please move it for me.

    thanks

    Who is your ISP?

All three of the links worked just fine for me on Cox cable.

This sounds like a DNS issue from your ISP, this is all too common. I would suggest trying to change your DNS servers and see if that resolves the issue.

I can no longer edit the above post but I just realized I can access these sites from the computer right next to mine. So we would be sharing the same ip right? Does that help anyone with a possible solution to my problem?

    thanks

It sounds like your computer is infected with badware. If you do not know what tools to use to clean up your computer I would suggest taking a look at a post on the subject on my personal site. http://zacgarrett.com/permalink/Anti-Badware-Programs.html

I would be happy to help out further if you could tell me what operating system you are running and what tools you are running to protect yourself. This will be similar to the tools I list on my site.

thanks chickens, I downloaded and ran spybot search and destroy and now I can see those sites again. But something really strange is wrong, I deleted or 'fixed' a file with the name 'excite' in it and now I can't log on to www.excite.com, it is weird I type www.excite.com in the address bar and click go and nothing happens. I search 'excite.com' on google and then click the links going to any part of the excite site and it won't work.

I tried from firefox and it works, so I guess something got messed up in IE6. Maybe I should upgrade to IE7?

    Upgrade to ie7.

I could help you resolve this issue with ie6, but upgrading to ie7 is a good move. I highly suggest anyone to upgrade at this point in time. There are a ton of security fixes in the latest version that will help protect yourself for things like this happening in the future.

Some people say that they want to keep ie6 around for web development and most of their users run that browser. I disagree with this logic if IE is your primary browser. If you use firefox as your primary browser this is not nearly as big of an issue.

My first suggestion for most people is to use Firefox. If they want to stick with IE then at least upgrade to IE7 as it will protect you from most of this badware.

I have two major issues with opendns:
ads when a site is down. I have issues with ads, I know I am nuts about this kind of thing.

The other issue is cacheing. When a DNS server is down it will cache their DNS info in your browser rather than trying to request the domain again. This means you have to restart your browser to try a site again. This is just a little quirk of mine. I work on DNS servers quite often and I need to test to see if they are working or not. OpenDNS causes problems for me in this way.

For most people opendns will do wonderful things. If you type domain.cmo instead of domain.com it will automatically redirect you. It will also protect you from phishing sites.

it is a good service and I used it for about 6 months before I became annoyed by it. I would recommend it to most people.
