Problem with site name

Hey. Almost 100% of the time, my site is up and working fine, but that is only when accessed via "mydomain.com". The problem arises when i try to access it with "www.mydomain.com". Adding the "www." prefix often causes a "Page cannot be displayed" error.

    What could be the problem?

    Thanks in advance,
    Dan.

If I'm right it depends from how you registered site's name...
www.mydomain.com or mydomain.com? The best way as for as I know - is registration both names www.mydomain.com and mydomain.com.. :)

Oh no not at all Speedle, it could be accessed both ways when you register a domain name.

Well, try making a 301 Server side redirect so that your non www version redirects to the www version, I believe this is the case of a corrupt .htaccess file where its not letting you access the site through the non www version.

Adjust the DNS settings for www.example.com. Make sure you have address records (type A records) for both example.com and www.example.com, with the same IP address. This is not hard to do at all with both Windows and Linux DNS servers.

You could also contact your hosting technical support and let them to fix it.

When it comes to this side of things, im not very good unfortunately :(

Ive got 2 name servers set up. My registrar is namecheap, and my host is hostgator. Im still not really understanding what it is i need to do.

If i contact somebody about the issue, who should it be? my host, or my registrar?

if you do a whois lookup on your domain, what dns server does it show.
I presume it would show your web host right, so the problem is with their dns.
If the domain is redirected via your registrar (whois DNS shows your registrars hosting DNS servers), you need to adjust the dns records at your registrar
