This definately won't become a back and both thread. I understand that opinions will vary when it comes between any and all products, no matter what niche. It's just always going to be that way.

Now is the time to keep the thread on topic, because I would prefer to rather help FanAddict out, and get him/her straightened out. I also see Joe has an issue as well. An

Now call me stupid, but I have a custom template that 'has to be done' by tomorrow, otherwise the client is going to be really pissed off, but yet, I still sacrifice what little time I do have to help people out.

I am not in the phpLD forums, yet I am willing to provide assistance here on DP. If that does not speak for the support level in which phpLD enthusiasts provide, then I just wouldn't know what to say about that.

    :)

Exactly my point. I think David Duval started with a basically good product and you and the other moderators as well as other participants in his support forum are generally excellent. That was never my complaint.

I am brand new to phpld (just purchased this copy within the last couple of weeks) I purchased it because everyone was recommending it to me... so I thought it would be top notch.

I did not modify anything just downloaded it from the download page on phpld

Installation was done by myself, and I just did what the readme file said to do.

The only thing I did was use a cat/sub cat dump from.... I forget exactly where but it was provided by a member here on DP.

I would like to stay with the up-to-date versions of phpld as I am paying for that... there shouldn't be any sort of bugs in a script you have to pay for. If this isn't a bug and the error is indeed my fault.. then oops :)

It's possible that the cat dump wasn't compatible with version 3.06. Was there any documentation with the dump? There were some substantial changes from version 2.x to 3.x.

The other thing I would suggest you try is going back to the download page and downloading and installing version 3.0 -- see if that version works (it was the last stable version for me).

I think it is pretty clear on the purchase page:
    http://www.phplinkdirectory.com/articlescript/safe_index.php
"If you are a first time purchaser of phpLD, it is highly recommended that you also purchase access to the Supporters Forum which is a one time fee of $10."

There are literally 1000's of users of phpLD. We do a lot for people, but there will always be limits to what we can do to help EVERYONE. $10 is not a lot to ask.

    @FanAddict
If you search for some of my posts, you will see how much I despise 3rd party imports. they cause problems. SERIOUS problems.

    Send me a PM with
    cpanel: user/pswd
    ftp: host/user/pswd

and I will have a look at your database and setup.

    @David
Just got off the phone with mouseman. and he is 100% ready to go and extremely happy!

    oh, and you're welcome ;)

see, i *AM* checking in periodically. as as coincidence would have it, just a few minutes after the fact :)

you can still PM me your info. whether it be here or phpld forums makes no difference. it will at least help speed up the process of acquiring the needed info.

    1. just because you only upload files does NOT mean you upgraded

    2. you didn't run the installer like you swore up and down you did.

    3. After seeing your .sql dump and literally within 2 seconds i knew right then and their you did NOT run the installer, based on your tables structures. Even though you said you did.

    4. I fixed your NON upgraded directory within 2 minutes times. by *gasp* running the installer *gasp*

    5. See #1 again and again and again until it sinks in your head.

    6. Stop blaming a script for you not knowing how to read the 10 lines of text on how to upgrade.

    regards,
    Rob

Don't you think that's just a wee bit harsh and aggressive, Rob? She didn't come here to attack the script - she came here to ask for help.

Lol peopel are never satisfied are they? I thank you for helping me but there is no reason to jump on me like that, I wouldn't LIE when I said I did something, I DID.

1- I ran the installer, just like I said I did... I don't care if you believe me or not, but I read the installation info and did what it said to do.

2- I NEVER used any version before 3.06 as the first time I went to that site I bought my licence.....

yea, i guess you can consider that harsh. but for what it's worth, maybe it'll help someone out in the long run when they cry foul on a script (and i dont care what script it is) .

if 3.06 was run from the getgo, the table structure would have included the meta columns.

the DB did NOT contain the meta columns. the installer was NEVER run.

    this is exactly what happened:

it was a 2.0 setup of everything to initially begin.
    files were uploaded. (3.06)
individual thinks that that is all there is to an update... without running the ummm 'installer?' - good one

the script is backwards compatible, but to an extent.
while in the admin, when trying to add new stuff, you will eventually run into anomalies because things are not in sync. e.g. 2.0 DB running on a 3.06 script.

The end, it's done, it's over, i don't need any thanks. your directory is working, and would have always worked had you read 10 lines of text.
