    Hi,

I'm new with paypal and just received payment but the buyer claims it's "unauthorized" and payment is now "held" by paypal.
the item I'm selling is for download, so I can't provide physical tracking info.

I think the buyer is just a scammer, any ideas how to protect yourself in this case?

    Thank you

A measure I've taken to secure myself with digital products is using email to deliver the product or download after the buyer's payment clears. Downside is you may need to do everything manually (log into email to check orders, log into paypal to verify payment has cleared, email customer with download link, etc) unless you write or can find a program that will do this for you. Good luck and all the best to you.

Thank you very much for your kind help, yes I think I'll do that. paypal doesn't provide any protection for digital product's sellers I guess.

    Much appreciated,

    Mike

    Hi,

Actually I have two different sales and both claiming that the transactions were "unauthorized", so yes they're disputed.

Paypal asked for an answer and proof of shipment. but it doesn't make any sense because they're the ones who should provide proof that the payments made were not authorized. From my side, I provide instant download after payment so there is no way for them to not to receive the product.

Now paypal says they're reviewing the transactions. I have no clue how this whole process works but it doesn't look good!

Anyways they're only two sales. I just want to understand how paypal handles this or I would better use a different payment system.
I'm aware that they're - and they should - protect buyers but what about sellers? if it's as easy as that, then sellers of digital products or online services are not provided with any protection at all from paypal.

Why it's the main payment system online then?! if it's so weak then it shouldn't be even used at all by anyone. doesn't make any sense to me.
    Maybe I'm missing something... I don't know.

Thank you very much for your kind help,

    Mike

Yes I believe that you're right, it's really bad payment processor especially for digital products/services.
I think I'll use a better payment system in the future. just thought that I should give it a try since it's the most popular..

Thank you very much for your help,

    Mike
