My site Kinetic Die Casting has been hosted since 1997 by the same company. Everything has been good (somewhat) with our relationship. My site has about 100 html and php pages. I used to get a little downtime but they changed servers and now the downtime has decreased. I have a new problem. I recently installed my Manufacturing Directory, a Phpld directory. Now my site has gone down a few more times because my hosting company stops access to my directory when the bandwidth increases. I have been marketing my directory a lot and last month I used 6GB of bandwidth. My host shut my directory down twice saying it is a "bandwidth hog" Tonight it is shut down again. What Should I do?
1. Start downloading a site backup now. 2. If your domain is registered via your host (either directly or via a reseller) I would highly recommend transferring it to a different registrar. Even some of the better hosts drag their feet on things for a customer that is leaving best get it done beforehand. 3. Talk to your current host about upgrade options. 4. Compare their offer with other hosts. Try checking webhostingtalk.com.
The problem with shared servers is that your web site can be taken down for bandwidth or cpu usage. So they have plenty of excuses to use if your site is getting decent traffic.
what hosting company is this? Do they even want business anymore cause seriously 6 GB limit is pathetic.
After reviewing my stats I think it is CPU not bandwidth. on a scale of 1-9 my site usually is a 2 but it was pegging 9 so they shut it down.
at 110mb.com we have 300GB official bandwidth, but in general we have a half terabyte bandwidth for free And nobody shuts down anything. Give it a try if you want...
yeah but thats the entire server. your on shared hosting so your not doing all that CPU resources yourself with only 6GB, unless everyone comes on your site at the same exact time.
I don't get it - some of the reputable web host like BlueHost and HostMonster are offering unlimited bandwidth - why are you suffering with just 6GB? I knew these so-call 'unlimited bandwidth' offers are some-what marketing gimmicks but 6GB is just way too poor. There was once I had similar (actually it's worse) experience with a lousy web hosting company (Network Eleven!) and was reluctant to leave them due to laziness. It was really a pain in the @ss and believe me, it feels 1000 times much better when I moved my lazy butt and work things out right. So my suggestion to you is the same: Change your web host, now.
This issue can be related to the amount of resources used by the site, and not the amount of bandwith, maybe you can try to see what is causing the resources usage and then you can try to optimize the script.
