Hi, One of the results displayed by google for the keyphrase ghd or ghd hair straighteners looks dubious. For example - the site www.ghsdirect.com is ranked 8 on google for keyphrase ghd yet if you look at their site, there is no relevancy - no mention of ghd nor do they sell ghd hairstraighteners. They sell products that are in competition to ghds. Does anyone know what's happening here - Is there a genuine problem with google algorithm or the site is using black hat seo techniques (hidden text, cloaking e.t.c). Thanks!!!
It's not cloaking. You can check the cached page and see there is no mention to "ghd". Probably the site is receiving links with that text, check link:www.ghsdirect.com search. Also it could be that Google, analyzing semantically the terms, has determined that ghd = ghs.
There is a line "I was thinking of buying GHD straighteners" With a GHD in it. Its not the home page. It then means that this site have lots of back links with GHD in the anchor text. I have lots of back links with this anchor text "angilina" When I search for angilina in google, my site comes in search result, but there is not even a single word "angilina" in my site
Thanks for the suggestions. I performed a backlink analysis using the backlinkwatch tool - www.backlinkwatch.com and they have paid text links with ghd as the anchor text. And all this links appear on non-beauty/fashion related sites. Doesn't google count this links down since they are from non-authority and non-beauty/fashion related sites? Any thoughts? Thanks!!!!
As for now the truth is that loads of non-authority links, are better than few from pages with relevant content. Unfortunately only Google knows wheter link from not related page is worth 1/100 or 1/100000 of link juice assigned to authority link.
