I use gmail for my personal email as well as my various businesses. I set it all up to be used in Thunderbird via Imap. The problem is when I do this gmail creates an "All Mail" folder that appears to hold all the emails (inbox, sent, trashed) once i delete an email it is deleted from the inbox in both imap and webmail login. Problem is that gmail keeps that email in the "All Mail" folder, thus that folder now has thousands of emails in it. I can't just go in and delete all because it has all the emails from the account including inbox and other folders.

anyone else have these problem? suggestions?

    Thanks!

There should be an option to delete on server under imap settings, I'm not a IMAP expert though so maybe worth checking Gmails Q&As..
