Problem with Domain Registration

    Hi DP Members,
I recently brought a domain from a web hosting provider recently as a part of their policy to have a domain for free. I am sure that I applied for a fresh domain . But after registering the domain I found that it is already in possession of some other people, although the site is not live. The whois domain tool says status: CLIENT-TRANSFER-PROHIBITED. What does this mean. I contacted my web hosing providers on mail. They are telling me to contact the losing registrar and get the domain unlocked. Now I don't know what exactly I could sort out this issue. Please advice

CLIENT-TRANSFER-PROHIBITED means that the domain name is locked.

If you are the owner of the domain name, contact the registrar (place where you bought the name) and ask them to unlock it. If you do not own the domain name, I doubt they would unlock it for you.

I am not the owner of this domain. But does this happen so often. I got totally confused when I found that this particular domain is previously registered, as I am sure that I had opted for a new domain. Anyhow I have mailed the losing registrar. Let me find out what they have to say about this.

Also - remember that you cannot transfer a url to another registrar for 60 days (I believe) after it's purchase. Just mark your calender and transfer it after that. You can in the mean time change the DNS or Forward it to where ever you need.
    Good luck
