Problem with CH-MOD setting, please help

I have a problem with a script I purchased at eBay.
It is a self populating articles' website script which needs setpermissions.sh in the cgi-bin to be set to 755.

All my efforts failed to do it and seller assistance was not of much help.

    Problem I faced
As soon as I choose permissions to count 755 and click OK, server stops responding. The cursor stays like an hour glass till it disconnects automatically. That's it. And it happened countless times.
I am fed up because I am unable to use the script.

    Please help.

No, not that. FTP client stays on but I don't see anything but the cursor in the working mode (hourglass)

The cgi-bin folder should have already been set to 755.

But anyway, all FTP servers don't allow the chmod command. You'll have to ask the server administrator who has shell access.

No, unfortunately it is not. Moreover, it is the last step and if it was the case, the site must have loaded.

    PMed you just now.

Thanks very much gentlemen. At least there is some head way now.
