Is there a control panel with this server? Is there a firewall as well? I am wondering, from just the few lines posted, why the localhost client would be denied to the server? How do you get things back down, just an httpd restart?

Apache maxclients setting is causing problems, and that we can't find a proper value for it. I don't know what to do now.

Anyway who is expert in apache and can help me?

I can give you a hand. What do you currently have it set at?

    apache max clients = 500

and we made a script, which restarts apache everytime it gets overloaded.

The question would be, why is it hitting the max clients? I would think that there is something else that is stopping/slowing the child process down, which in turn, is causing the child to hold onto processes longer than it should, and then it overloads and reaches the max clients. When you restart, I assume the loads go back down to normal?
