Suppose I want to rank well for 3 keywords, and they are as follows,

    1) chicken
    2) duck
    3) dog

I create signature anchor text backlink and please tell me what is differences between the following anchor texts? which one is better? or they are just the same?

    a) chicken, duck, dog (independent anchor texts)
    b) chicken, duck, dog (one anchor text with all keywords)

i would go for independent anchor texts.
Try to get as many links with the anchor word chicken, and as many as links with the word duck and as many links with the word dog.

It is said that google makes note of the words around anchor text for SERP purposes. Which means that chicken, duck, dog, beaver, llama would probably include all the animals mentioned ... but probably gives extra weight to dog since it is the actual anchor text.

Choices a) and b) above are probably equal in weight although I have never done any scientific experiments with this.

Dosn't expect much of a difference. I guess ErectADirectory is right, more or less.

Use separate (independent) links for each keyword. Also, have an optimized organic landing page and make sure you link to that page.

Use separate (independent) links , also use supporting keywords and varians.
That will help to increase ranking of main keywords...

i can tell you from own experience that using separate anchor text instead of a single one is by far better. i was targeting "miniclip" keyword and also "free games" and i was using the anchor text "free miniclip games". i can tell you than my website ranked ok with this for "miniclip" but not for "free games". then i've tried using only "miniclip" as anchor text and soon my website went straight to first page. dropped a little now (it's first on second page) but if you target single phrases in anchor texts you will see better results. this is mainly because google gives this keyword more power. be careful not to use only one keyword in the anchor text. if you target dogs, ducks, etc make sure you add some links with the anchor DOGS, some with DUCKS, etc. if you use one anchor text you will rank good for a little while and then google will start dropping your site little by little because as far as they are concerned this is artificial linking. no website that gets links because it has great content will have the same anchor text on all websites that are linking to it.
keep this in mind when you run your link building campaign.

From my experience, most weight given by google for the exact keyword used in anchor text. The all in one anchor text weight less and keyword surrounding anchor text weight lesser.

I can tell you that the best way is to go with separate anchor text for each keyword link. This way SERPs for that specific keyword will be considered more relevant. After all, never forget that Google is about relevancy.
