problem using flash cs4 design with flash 8...

A friend designed a new front page for my website, using Asdobe flash cs4...he then sent me the .fla file...which my flash 8 program sees, but cant open due to 'unexpected file format'.

He tried saving it as a .html file, and i uploaded that as it is, to my website's public html, but it just produces a blank page.

The flash movie file he sent me, i can insert into a dreamweaver page (DW 8), but i cannot edit it, and as the flash page has links on it, i need to edit them...it just goes into dreamweaver as a flash movie, and i hit play to se it working...saving that as a .html or .php and uploading it, then loading it via the browser produces a blank screen, with the feint outline of a box saying click here to activate..however clicking there does nothing.

if i want to edit a page made in cs4 do i need cs4 or should flash 8 work****

how can i get these files into a window or program where i can edit***

would cs4 files work with cs3****

If this is in the wrong forum, and there is a better place for a request for help with Flash, please, someone tell me...I will delete this and repost where directed.

I am eager to get this problem sorted as the new front end design looks a million times better than the old one. Its like comparing a Aprilia RSV Mille with a Honda c50...

No you cannot edit CS4 files with flash 8. Flash CS4 can only save files in CS4 or CS3 format, so you should be able to open it with Flash CS3 providing the dev saved the file as CS3. Also, flash CS4 has some new features which are not available in CS3 such as 3D, Bones tool and other, so if your movie uses some of the new CS4 features, then you will only be able to update it with CS4.

Thanks for confirming that, higreg...I will have to procure cs4, or ask my mate to save it as a cs3 file...but if he used any of the cs4 only features, i will need cs4. Cheers.

Yeah, I have CS4, and had to get Flassh CS3 because it would not save in flash 8, so the scripts etc got all messed up. It's crazy that they don't support it!

If your friend design it, why don't you ask him to convert it to .swf, and just publish it the way it is... That way you'll save $$$ for buying Flash CS4 (or even with CS3).

Just keep the CS4 file format in your archive, just in case you'll need them when you already bought CS4 :)

Cheers for the suggestions. OI have cs4 now and am learning the basics...what is troubling me at the moment is working out if it is possible to implement a forum news html code into a flash page...but perhaps I need to ask that in a separate thread or on a flash focused forum.
