Suppose I want to rank well for the keyword "football" and I find that people search for the term "football" in many ways, and some of them are as follows,

    1) football (90,000 search/month)
    2) nice football (10,000 search/month)
    3) big football (20,000 search/month)
    4) small football (15,000 search/month)

When I decide to optimize the keyword "football", I make anchor text for the phrases "big football", "small football" and "nice football".

The question is : Do I need to create anchor text for the keyword "football" alone as well? or when I create anchor text for the phrases like "big football", "small football" and "nice football", the keywords "football" is already optimized? Please advise:confused:

No need to use football in ur anchor text if your main target is "adjective football".. but will help later on..

"football" is a nasty keyword to go our trying to rank for. I suggest you to attack some keyword phrases that make "football" more niche. Adjectives are good, try to find more variants and go for them.
