I was inquiring about a website of mine. I have had the site up and running for about 2 weeks and there is no sign of my site being indexed in google yet. I have plenty of backlinks pointed towards my site and I was wondering what may be the problem. Is there something wrong with my domain and if so can it be fixed.
it would really set my mind at ease if someone would help me out, maybe let me know what may be going on, some tips on getting included and also another question, my home page hasnt been cached by msn or yahoo since like the 15th of NOV. what could this be from.
Some might argue that 2 weeks is not a long time at all. Some sites take a few weeks to be ranked. What is your URL? FFMG
I also agree that 2 weeks is not that long of a time period. How many backlinks do you have and how good is the quality? Are the links from sites that rarely get spidered themselves? Is your link on a page with 1000 other links? These things will play a role. In regards to your cache not being updated in the last week, don't worry about that. This is also not that long of a time period. You need to have a lot of inbound links and have your own content change pretty frequently for your cache to be updated more regularly.
Validate your page at http://validator.w3.org get a link with at least pr3 or pr4 ping pingomatic (if it's a blog) use sitemaps be patient
Thanks for the link, I can see that one page is indexed with MSN/Yahoo and your back links are around 3500 for MSN and 1740 for Yahoo, (as expected nothing for Google). I must admit that I am a little bit surprised to see how many BL you managed to get in 2 weeks, but then again you are a directory so it is possible I guess. You also have some errors in your home page, although I don’t think it is the problem really. All in all I think it is just a matter of time. Just wait another 2 or 3 weeks. Because you are a directory, Google might put you in a sand box for 2 or 3 months, (if not more). FFMG
God, i hope not!!! I cant wait for that PR update!! Anyway, thanks so much for all the feedback, I have some powerful back links from some PR7, PR6, and PR5 websites, so im crossing my fingers, plenty of links to come also!! what errors did you notice with the home page??? The links on the footer?? if so those pages will be up shortly!! Its a nice script huh?
Sadly it is often the case for new sites, maybe you will not have to wait so long. As mentioned have a look at http://validator.w3.org/, but those errors shouldn't cause your site to be blocked or anything. The script looks ok, but it does not produce tidy HTML, of course, it is only a problem for humans reading, nothing wrong with it for most browsers. FFMG
Question... Did this site have a previous owner... I found myself in exactly the same position with one of my sites. It was in Yahoo but not in Google... Why? In the end I discovered because it was banned in Google as either an expired domain or because the previous owner did Google unfriendly things on that site. Could you tell me a little about the domain's history. Thanks, Gary
I expect Gbot to have visited my sites within a minimum of 5 days. Any more than that and there's something wrong. Q: is GoogleBot even visiting the site ?? With the number of IBL's you're talking about, Gbot should have been around plenty by now. More often than not, the bots visit within 48 hours of my sites going live (assuming I've got IBL's pointing at them).
There was no previous owner for the domain, I bought the domain from godaddy , and there was no problem there!! What I think may have happened was that I had no content for a while, when the domain first got hosting, i was waiting for a script, there is content now and backlinks, i just think that it takes time!!! Patience is a virtue, I really appreciate the feedback, and I will look into fixing the html errors.
Its wierd because there has been no re-caching of the site from either of the search engines since about the 8th of Nov.. Could there be some other problem with my website??
Smitty, I'm not sure what is going on with your site really. A check in Altavista says 1,440 back links but when one clicks on those backlinks only 11 results are returned... I guess as those thousands of links are actually made up of repeated links from the same site (in the footer or something). A look at Neat-O Backlink Tool shows you have 8 unique backlinks. One of those is the site-swift directory but going by their recent problems with Google I don't think the Gbot will be rushing over there to re-crawl their site. Some of the other links are from PR0 sites and the nature of your site means you will get other backlinks but they will be burried deep on a 3rd level page somewhere (again on PR0 page). So johncr's advise is good: get a link with at least pr3 or pr4 use sitemaps be patient Also answering jlawrence's question would be useful. Do you have any web stats at hand, particlularly when the bots last visited. Thanks, Gary
