Problem in Goole webmaster tool Settings

Hi all,

I have one doubt reagarding goole web master tool>Settings>Preferred domain> Display URLs as www.xyz.com

Here i am getting problem: "Part of the process of setting a preferred domain is to verify that you own http://xyz.com/. Please verify http://xyz.com/"

This means what, i am not able to understad.

Please solve my problem.

 

As stupid as this is you, also need to add the non www.version of your domain into webmaster tools now, then run veriforcation without doing anything as it already has the validation info from validating the www.version of your domain. Then you can go in and select it ok and delete the one you dont want to use anymore.

I know its a bit backwards and dont know whty they bothered changing the system worked better before if you ask me.

i had 301 redirect from www.domain to domain and add my domain only once! or i've missed something)

 

just go back to dashboard. click add site, and type in your url without the www. then just verify it however you verified the site with the 'www.' it'll be the EXACT same code so you don't actually have to do it again.

 

upload a verification file in your site and verify it, until that it will not be working

Yeah I use 301 redirct too, but it seems Google webmaster tools have changed the way it works when you add a new site, if you also want to select preference in google webmaster tools to make double sure.

Then you now need to add both versions to webmaster tools use the same veriforcation file for both then select the prefered version in settings.
