Why not ask members for donations (like wikipedia) to raise revenue. Or you could sell some advertising here on DP. When do you need the money by?

$600 seems pricey for a place like GoDaddy. I have my domains there, but I don't have hosting with them. I'd look at other places for a dedi as you can get a far cheaper and better deal for less than $600. But then again, i've never had a forum with that many members before, so I don't know the space it takes up or bandwidth. And I supose it's more to do with stability and performance under a big load. So whether the dedi has high specs or not i'm not sure. But i'd still search around and see what you find. Good luck!

$1000 a month for a dedicated server for a forum that doesn't pay is really expensive to run. You actually can get better prices elsewhere because if you cannot afford the $1000 each month, you will have the same headache month after month.

The one who benefits from your forums are your forum members and if they are unwilling to help then I doubt the forum is really worth running for their benefits. Why must you be paying the bills and letting them use your services for close to peanuts.

I think it would be better to run an ultimatium with your members and tell them to either pay up or leave. It would be better to have a smaller forum which you can comfortably afford. Alternatively, look for a dedicated server provider which charges much less and provides better services compared to GoDaddy.

Is the $600 entirely for the dedicated server?
If that is the case then there are much better options at half the price that you can consider.
And BTW GoDaddy does not have a great reputation in web hosting business, so I would not recommend buying from them.

Make sure you backup your site so that it can be restored at a later date if you are unable to get funds.

You can get dedicated servers for a few hundred bucks a months, or less.

Don't pay that amount, shop around.

$600 really does sound like to much. You really need to check around.
