I was looking to start a Movie Streaming site, its going to focus on a niche market and will be dealing in legal streaming of movies. Before I jump in to it I wanted to get some feedback from other webmasters who have tried this ( video streaming site )

What kind of hardware requirements will be best suitable , are there any reliable host offering the server and bandwidth requirement for such task.

If you guys have any good material to read on about this plz do list them, thanks a lot fellas

    Regards

I'd like to hear a little more about this as well. Can anyone that has one chime in on server issues. How big of an account do you need if you are paying for hosting ?

I think, at beginning, no need to pay a lot for hosting.

But, when that video streaming site become very popular
with a lot of traffics, many videos, and too many users and visitors....

    Need a lot of money.....

hosting depends on your objectives and goals , you targeting movie market then expect 50k plus traffic daily , and whats your plan ? DivX or Flash streaming , you using any compressor or not ?

i know everything about it , where to host how to promote ? which market to target !!

if you have some really good budget like $XX.XXX then enter in this niche .

    thanks

Make sure you have a monetization plan that goes BEYOND pay per click ads. Video sites are an awful business unless you have a completely custom made site with features not seen on other video sites, and a venture capital firm backing you up...

Streaming sites cost BIG $$$ to host once they get significant traffic. Don't even think of anything less than a dedicated server...add on more RAM (which is inevitable) and you'll really be paying a big monthly fee.

A good venue to look into is Amazon S3, it's a 'pay as you go' bandwidth service which is good for videos.

Overall, video sites produce very little revenue after operating cost.
