Hi, I would like to know is it better to have a private registration or a public registration when selling domains... i understand that having a private one is better when your running a porn site or something but thats not my case. as I am looking to sell the domains that I own...

    thanks

    I prefer private registrations because:

    - I'm sick of getting postal and email spam to the contact info in my whois registrations

    - I don't particularly want people to be able to correlate my ownership of different domains

It's free with name.com and others so why not? If you want people to contact you about buying the domain, put up a web page with an email address on it.

You have to drop the private option before actually selling the domain, but just get it free at name.com and then remove it before transferring to the new buyer. I always just drop it as I'm doing the transfer.

Yea, you need to remove private before selling, otherwise you won't be able to do it. :)

I have always used private domain registration, and I don't see a problem with it. Even when selling a domain, it's not a problem because it doesn't prevent you from transferring the domain. You still maintain the control of it, so the only objection you might face would be a suspicious buyer, possibly. But, then too, there are ways to confirm domain ownership other than just the registration information.

From SEO point of view domain name info should be public because google crawl whois data.

I've had no issues getting all my private domain sites to the top of Google. That SEO whois thing is just an old myth....

even with private whois, u still can transfer ur domain. as long as the listed email address is forwarded to your actual address.
