Got a question about private registration. Do you think private registration is the way to go when registering domains? What about if you were planning on selling the domains later on, would you still use private registration. Personally I have always gone with it myself.

I don't buy private registration if it is for reselling later. However if it is for my own use, I would buy private registration (though normally I get it free the first year from the promotions etc). I like private registration as your information aren't being shown to public which allows me to have more privacy and feel safer as I do not want to people to look up my address. However, if it is for business sites, I would suggest not to have private registration as most customers tend to look up whois info to see if the business owners are legit or not.

1&1 offers private registration services at no extra cost. In their control panel, you can switch your domain from private to public registration (or vice versa) at any time. I recently switched to private registration to myself.

Eitherways, I would go with private registrations.
I sell a lot of sites/domains and never got a problem with a buyer complaining about this as every sale goes through escrow.com

You can easily turn it off so why not?

I do not use such whois protection on my own domains but when my client request it - I gladly turn it ON for them since its FREE. Infact we can easily turn it OFF within seconds so thats not at all a problem

Private registration seems worthwhile. Only costs about $7 a year at godaddy to keep you address & phone# out of whois directory
