I know a privacy page is good for viewers, but what about SEO?

No it is not as the search engines would not be able to index the page and its contents. i.e. no traffic from the search engines for that particular page.

Unless your product or service relates to privacy or security I would say it does not help with SEO.

Not in itself, but it's not a bad idea.
It's the sort of thing that google likes for adwords and adsense, and although it doesn't directly help seo, it makes a site look a bit more legit, a bit less spammy, or mfa.

no, not at all help for seo, as these pages never really have keywords in! you wouldnt want it to be a landing page so you should put a no follow in the code so that the search engines dont really count this page. This will also help you from losing a pit of weight from other pages to a useless page.

Privacy policy is key if you are attempting to run an adwords campaign, it will greatly help your quality score.

Privacy policy is also a REQUIREMENT now for any website with adsense, if you display adsense and do not have a privacy policy you can be banned now.

A privacy policy is also great for viewers, especially if you are collecting info for an opt-in list or processing ccs.

A privacy policy in itself does not help with SEO, however having more pages and more content does give you a slight edge so it can't really hurt now can it?

    Thanks for all the replies.

I just started reading the book "Search Engine Optimization" by Kristopher Jones.

On page 68 he writes about privacy policy pages and states: "Many in the SEO community theorize that having a privacy policy page can help show the search-engine algorithms that you are in fact a legitimate business."

    Any comments?

i will explain you this. Actually Privacy Policy page has nothing to do with SEO. Yet, search engines look for it. The reason behind it is simple. The aim of any search engine is to provide the user with the best quality sites for the query entered. Privacy Policy page and Physical Address on the contact us page adds authenticity to the website which helps search engines to decide whether or not to index the website as it adds authenticity to it and helps user to understand that it is a legitimate business and not an online fraud.

    I hope i am clear.

    Thanks & Regards

    Thanks Shailendra. You were clear.
Does this mean that an "About Us" page would be a good recommendation too?

I suspect privacy page might have something to do with SEO. My SERP fell across by 20 to 200 positions when I change my robot.txt to block off most of my footer, which contain privacy, about us, help, and contact us. Or maybe it's a coincidence or bad luck.

The "About Us" page can be used for both SEO as well as authenticity purposes. Imagine you are visiting a website that does not have About Us page. How will you determine who are they or what they do? As far as SEO is concerned About Us page can be well used to stuff with keywords related to products or services being offered by the website.

    Thanks & Regards

If it's ecommerce website then it helps a lot in case of Google. But also it is a very good idea to keep Privacy Page. I always vote for it.
