Priority shaping for Sitemaps

    How important is it to shape your links in your sitemap? (I'm referring to the optional <priority> tag)

    I have a site that has user-generated content that is rated. I could easily implement an automated method to change the priorities according to how users have rated the link.

    Has anyone specifying priority found it helped their Google results?

    It's small hint to Google. I imagine it could be used to determine which of two equally good results are shown in SERPs (or which URLs to refresh/crawl first)

    Generally I set the automatic priority while generating the sitemap and never checked its influence on google ranking...

    During creating sitemap you can change the priority of pages according updation of page. It does not matter too much because lots of tags are useless in sitemap.
