Yesterday I have submitted a few websites to AuthorityDirectory.com and once I've finished just spent a bit of time reading the blog posts. I've had the chance to come across this post http://www.authoritydirectory.com/blog/custom-postage-for-marketing-and-special-occasions/ and then this one on Balkhis http://www.balkhis.com/random-blurbs/tip-sunday-authority-directory/ Well, well, well...your directory on a stamp...how does that sounds? It is one of the coolest marketing and advertising ideas I came across in a while and most important this comes from a directory owner. I would like to congratulate Bruce for that... hard work and creativity it something that web directories will always need. Now what you're waiting for? Print your directory, lick it and post it worldwide! Well done, Bruce!
Tried this before (not with a directory, though) - costs far outweighed the ROI so dumped the idea straight away. It's far too expensive in the UK, unfortunately
I wasn't talking about money or ROI...it's just a nice and creative concept...I also think that no one tried this before with a web directory so you won't know if it is profitable or not...
The minimum print run was 20, you can order them in batches as little as that or as many as you want. If you order more you get some additional cost breaks.
Yes, anything printed is damn expensive. And printed directory information went out with white ties and crew cuts.
If you were thinking of using this to promote a directory then you're absolutely right it may be too expensive in most cases. I ran this set of stamps for my directory because I was posting the article in the blog there. I wanted a related example and I was sending one to Syed at Balkhis who designed that banner used on the stamp for me. The thing to remember though is that there are more things to market than directories. If your selling homes ranging in prices from hundreds of thousands of dollars to seven figures then the price for one of these stamps quickly becomes irrelevant. If a family is sending out Christmas cards to relatives for example - how impressive is it to have the family pic on the cards postage when it arrives. It is just a nice added touch with the message. The point of the post was to just think a little out of the box when using different tools like that one.
You may not have realised at the time, but it was great linkbait which went viral. Certainly a blog post from Syed and a thread on DP must have raised a few hundred uniques for you, must have been worthwhile IMO.
Yes it is indeed a very nice idea when it is not abused, I came across that article a couple of days ago when bored... man I spend to much time on that site. Anyway, it didn't occur to me that it could be used as a promotional tool until reading this thread. I have often thought of how a mail shot could be used to promote a directory and this stamp idea will certainly add another dimension to any ideas I come up with in the future.
